A I wrote: "Registered nurses makes more money (up to $80,000.00/year) the maximum a Dental hygienst can make is $37.00 an hour (the lowest is $25/hour) which is still not too bad"

Not sure where A I is getting information, but $37 per hour is deffinitely NOT a cap where dental hygienists are concerned. A good, experienced hygienist can earn $45 per hour or more in a strong market. Some states allow licensed hygienists to perform expanded duties, such as filling prepped teeth.

Don't know what RN's make, but the Hygienists where I work earn $80K and more. I know this because I do the payroll.

Both make about the same. DH is a better career because a DH is NEVER required to do mandatory overtime. Meaning that say a nurse works in a hospital. Another nurse calls out sick. Well there are legal nurse to patient ratios that must be maintained and the hospital can FORCE the nurse that is already there to stay for an extra shift (say 8 more hours). But at a dental office they close at a set time so no DH ever has to work more than a few minutes after closing.

Rn's usually make more, however, hygienists do make great money.
One perk of being a hygienist is the hours. You can basically pick the days and hours that you want to work. This is extremely helpful when you have children.
Many times, nurses have to work long, very hard shifts. They often start out on night shift, also.
Both are very respectable, demanding careers that don't get enough appreciation!

I'm a dentist.

Actually, RN's make more money on average.

Realistically, though, when you consider the hours and the responsibilities, hygienists are better paid.

Registered nurse--- no competition and their salaries are on the rise PLUS they get loan forgiveness if they practice in the state they went to school in--- my daughter just graduated with a BS in nursing and she started at $33/hr plus mega benefits and free continuing ed and of course, they pay off all her student loans---what more can you ask for? oh yea, she only works 3 days a week 12 hr shifts.
