Crime scene: In a condo unit, there's a dead man with a gun in one of his hands and a recorder on the other. A gunshot through his head. No sign of violence.

The detective in charge took the recorder and played it.

"I'm tired of my life, I wanna die."

The detective asked the dead man's room mate

"Is this his voice?"

The room mate replied "Yes"

Then the detective said

"We must find the murderer"

Question: How did the detective know it's a murder and not a suicide?

someone wanted him dead so they shot him and recorded their own voice and stuck the recorder and the gun in to the dead guys hands. if it were the dead guy there would be no way for him to rewind or for him to push stop. if he did push stop at the end of the tape the detective would have heard his own voice. his roomates voice didnt sound like the recoreded voice or else he would have been arrested. good one 10/10

Hmm.. my first thought is to speculate whether the voice heard on the recording matched too well, the voice of the roomie as he replies, "yes"

But it also strikes me that if he had made his own recording and truly wanted to die, he would have ended the recording before the gunshot.

I'm sure the answer is probably not either of these, and is probably based off of some arcane initial assumption that we all make about the scene that we shouldn't have...

The detective asked the room mate if it was his voice and he said yes. It was the room mate's voice on the recorder not the dead man's.

The detective picked up the recorder and played it...it said nothing about the detective rewinding it...and a dead guy cant exactly rewind the tape now can he?
