So back in December I told the guy I like that I liked him and he said "I just like you as a friend." So I was like sure I get it, but I still like him. So later that month I hit a real rough spot and the guy that liked me (his friend actually) stopped talking to me as did a few others and I felt really low. The guy I like did something he did not have to do - he reached out to me and gave me his number and told me to call him whenever I needed someone. He didn't have to reach out to me, but he did, which shows he cares. He's also nice and flirty, both before and after telling him, saying things like "looking lovely today" and "hey! there's my favorite girl!" I don't understand why he acts so affectionate and kind and looks at me like he's entranced (I kid you not, even my friend admits "he does give you those looks!"), yet he says he only likes me as a friend. Is this all just a really outrageous coincedence, or does he like me, he just can't (or isn't ready) to admit it?

He's a good friend. He'll catch you before you hit the ground. He's nice and caring so your doing good just being friends. Maybe he likes you maybe he's just your buddy. Sometimes it just doesn't matter. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. If he likes you like you like him, he'll let you know. If he just wants to be good friends then thats enough. You get to be friends with a great guy that has a great heart. And thats special. Maybe he's not the one, maybe he is. Its all a big MAYBE. And you should let it stay that way. Because in a world that holds billions and billions of people its amazing and rare to find that one person that will catch before you hit the ground and you have found him. Just let him find you.

Maybe he thinks that a relationship is not right for the both of you now. Some guys, good guys, actually want to be serious with someone in the future and think that if you jump into something right now it may ruin it.
From what you described, I wouldn't push him. You both are there for each other and you said that he has very good qualities that you would like in a partner. You have also let him know that you have feelings for him. Leave the ball in his court and see what happens. He may suprise you.

He might. Or he might just feel bad.
You never know unless you ask. Unless of course he's just saying that he likes you as a friend. Which in that case, he is just one of those incredibly flirty people, he hasn't made up his mind yet, or he is denying his attraction to you.
Some people on the other hand, also look at you because they know you like them. Which could also mean, that they think your fondness of them is either weird, or they're considering the possiblility of getting together with you.

I used to have a lot of guy friends. They hung out at my house. One guy who just liked me as a friend, did the very same thing you just described. It sounds like he loves you but just not in a romantic way.
Guy friends really can care about you that much, without feeling romanticly inclined.

Three things about guys you should know:
1. They don't always know how they feel at first...it takes time for him to realize his true feelings.
2. They get scared; he may have panicked when you said you liked him.
3. They like to help girls, it makes them feel strong.
So I would just go with the flow, see if his interest continues to grow. He's probably just waiting for you to bring it up again, so if he stays interested, I would ask him about it again.
