Pilates is a wonderful thing. Believe me, and try it out.
Also, watch what you eat because exercise doesn't matter if you're eating junk all day long. Nothing will happen unless you cut back on the calories and increase the exercise.
Good luck!

You can safely lose 1-2 pounds a week or at most 8 pounds a month. I would suggest that you first have a food diary. Put in what you eat, the amount, and the allotted calories (see Calorie Chart below) you take in per day. Then compute on just how many calories you take in and how much you take out in exercise and daily activities (see Exercise Calorie Expenditures below). The best way to lose weight would be to eat well, AND burn more calories than what you take in.
It's not good to cut down huge amounts of calories from your diet as your body can recognize this deficiency and act against you in the long term. It's also not enough to eat well, you have to eat things in the right amount, too (see Food Pyramid below). So what I suggest is to cut 100-200 calories from your diet a week at a time. Your body needs at LEAST 1,200 calories to function properly; anything below that can lead to malnutrition.
Exercise regularly and carry weights. What weights does, actually, is help you burn your fat. Cardiovascular activities help you in building endurance and fortifies your system. Exercise also helps you with your metabolism. If you exercise regularly, you can actually burn more just SITTING DOWN or sleeping than if you didn't exercise at all. You will also have more energy for the day. Don't be surprised if you don't lose weight as quickly especially when you're exercising because not only will you be losing your fat, you'll be putting in some muscle. Muscles weigh more than fat and you'll likely be losing inches rather than pounds. If it's any comfort: "Compared to fat, muscle tissue is 10 to 20 times more active metabolically, whether at rest or during activity."
So, watch your diet (eat moderately!), exercise regularly, and for your own peace of mind, don't be too hard on yourself. Indulge once in a while, and remember that rest is just as important as knocking yourself out.

A proper diet is the best way to lose weight naturally and keep it off. You have to eat a varied adequate and balanced diet. Your body needs all kinds of food to function properly including fat in smaller quantities though. Your body needs the nutrients and vitamins in fruits and vegetables the most, that is what you should eat the most of (at least 5 servings a day). You also need protein, and a little fat. Reduce your intake of sweets, fried food and foods that contain a lot of fat. Don't drink too many alcoholic beverages or soft drinks (they have a lot of calories). Don't go to sleep right after you eat. And finally exercise at least 3 to 4 days a week for about 45 minutes.Good luck. You can also get more information about nutrition from this site:

Candee, follow this regimen closely.
1. drink a lot of water.
2. eat breakfast at 6:30 every morning
3. keep your heart level up for at least 30min/day
4. eat lunch consisting of fruits and vegetables and meat at 12:00pm
5. eat a snack at 3pm of fruit
6. eat a light supper no later than 6:30pm.
The reason that I say start at 6:30am is because it will stimulate your metabolism and the earlier you eat, the more breakfast you can eat
The reason that I say at least 30 min of aerobic exercise/day is because the longer that you keep your heart rate up the more energy you burn.
The reason that I have put you on a schedule of times to eat is because this schedule keeps your metabolism up. The later that you eat supper, the more likely that the calories that you consume at dinner will turn to fat.
I suggest a lot of water because it has no calories and it aids the digestive process. I suggest fruit and vegetables because they do not have many calories and they digest easily.
Eat nuts in the morning because they are difficult to digest and will keep you full longer.
Good luck getting into shape.
By the way, if you run for at least 30 minutes/day you can go out to eat 1 time per week.

Start eating between 1200-1500 calories a day and start exercising about 3 times a week. And drink plenty of water! And eat fruits, veggies and whole grains.

Mix it up between cardio and weights, eat lots of fruits and veggies, shrink your portion size, and drink lots of water!
All you need to do is take in less calories than you burn and you'll lose weight. Lots of people find that calorie journals help with this - make a goal of calories that you won't pass in a day, read all food labels and write the calories you've eaten, and don't go over.
