your question has pretty much already been answered, Deputy Sheriff can work in the Courts, The Jail, Boat Patrol if a lake is in the County, Patrol, and Off-Highway Vehicles, Police Officers only do Patrol in the City Limits, and no clue what a constable does, oh.... and state troopers are all traffic related and enforce all traffic laws

Most of your question has been well answered, but I do want to point out that in some locations a constable is an elected official who serves his or her township in a law enforcement capacity. In our area it is basically volunteer position.

You may also discover that usually city police officers are better paid than county deputy sheriffs.

well they all do the same basic thing, but it comes down to jurisdiction and mabye specilized training for specific areas. police officers is a general term but usually are restricted to city or town or villige limits. The sherriff's jurisdiction is usually county-wide, and they also cover areas that do not have their own departments. and they may or may not handle the county jail. (also one of the older LEO's) State troopers or the state police do a lot of highway and are state wide jurisdiction. if you want to become a sherriff. GO TO SCHOOL. get some sort of assoc or bachlors degree in a law enforcment field.

They are all police officers, thier title just depends on who they work for, city county state or the court.

In general they do the same thing, city police work in the city, sheriff dept work in the county. and state troopers or state police work state wide.

In reality, sheriffs and deputy sheriffs work in areas not covered by city police departments. They may work in smaller towns, as depicted in Westerns, or outside city limits in a populated area. Sheriffs perform duties similar to those of city police chiefs. Deputy sheriffs have duties similar to those of city police officers.

Sheriffs and deputy sheriffs patrol assigned areas and respond to calls. They check out illegal or suspicious activities and safety hazards. They pursue and arrest suspected criminals. Deputies also enforce traffic laws and issue citations. In addition, they take control of accident scenes to keep traffic flowing. They also help accident victims and investigate the causes.

Deputy sheriffs who work as investigators gather facts and evidence. They also locate and take people into custody who have warrants for their arrest. Deputies with civil duties serve subpoenas and summonses. They also seize property by court order. In addition, they provide security in courthouse areas.

Deputy sheriffs with jail-related duties transport prisoners from jails to courtrooms or medical facilities. They may also take prisoners to the District Attorney¿s office. Deputies also question visitors who enter secured prison areas. They find out why they are there and direct them whereto go. Some deputies supervise prisoners while they are in jail. The duties of these deputies are similar to those for corrections officers. Other deputies take prisoners' fingerprints and photos, and do all the paperwork needed to add prisoners to the jail.

All sheriffs and deputy sheriffs write reports and log their daily activities. They must maintain accurate records that will be used if they testify in court.

A lot of it has to do with jurisdiction. Law enforcement officers are obsessed with jurisdiction. One is confined to a city, one to a county, etc.
