In theory, yes, I believe that exercising can improve an infection, whether bacteria or viral. How?

Exercise sends antibodies and white blood cells thru the body faster than normal. For that reason, it's possible that your body becomes aware at an earlier time that there's something foreign in the body...which would trigger your body's immune system to respond sooner. Also, it's already known that the body's natural course of fighting off an infection is to elevate it's temperature. That's why it's always helpful to allow yourself to have a fever for a few hours before taking something to get rid of it...provided that it's not extremely high. When we exercise, we increase our body's internal temperature, so it may work the same way.

I recently read something online which said a study was done on a group of people with the common cold virus. Half exercised as they normally would if well and half did not exercise. The exercise neither shortened nor lengthened the disease period. So the moral is to do whatever feels best to you because it won't make any difference to the disease (unless you really exhaust yourself or something like that).

When you are sick, and need to heal, you should rest. Doesn't matter virus or bacteria.
There is old folklore about "feed a fever, starve a cold" or vice versa that talks about eating when sick. That one may have a scientific basis.

You probably don't feel like exercising when sick...obey Mother Nature....bed rest, simple froods, lots of fluids
