Karen,

Don't be concerned just yet. Normally more than one test will/should be performed to determine that the protein in her urine is not just a temporary condition.

Usually, the kidneys are very good at filtering out large molecules like proteins and returning them to the bloodstream. Sometimes temporary conditions will cause some proteins to be excreted in the urine, and fever is one of them. So is heavy exercise, but that is not the case here.

The infection--viral? Flu?--could be the cause of a temporary increase in urine protein.

So I would suspect that the doctor will want to wait for a bit and then test your daughter again. My guess is that her protein levels will become normal after the fever passes.

If not, other tests will have to be performed to find the reason for the persistent proteins, because some of the reasons for it are not good.

for now, however, don't be too concerned. Let the doctors do their work, you do yours, and see if everything returns to normal.

Good luck.

It sounds like protein in the urine she is producing. This can happen to someone who has a fever or for other reasons. It does not point to kidney problems, so relax.

if you mean protein in the pee... then this is not good. our pee should not contain an excessive amount of protein because the body has to reabsorb it. the bug must be affecting her kidneys then i'm not sure...but rest assured that if it's a bug then they probably already have given her antibiotics. you already took her to the doc's so she will mostly be fine. just make sure that she is careful with putting dirty stuff in her mouth. teach her to practice good hygeine to minimize her chances of infection.

Is she peeing protein? Ask the doctor to make sure. This isn't something to play around with.

usually indicates the start of a urine infection. if her bowels have been loose, this may have cross sontaminated her urethra and caused infection. make sure she drinks plenty, and see the dr if it starts to hurt her to pass urine

get her on a gatorade diet. Just keep her hydrated. If she dehydrates she will feel worse.
