now that my own son is 18 months, i'm ready to go back to school. the local community college offers:
-Associate in Early Childhood Education - 4 semesters.
-Early Childhood Education Diploma - 3 semesters.
-Early Childhood Education Certification - 1 semester.
my short term goal is to workin a daycare for now, and eventually own/operate my own in-home daycare (we are going to build a building in the back of our property). my question is: can i find employment in a daycare if i opt to just go one semester and get certified, or do i need a diploma to work as a child care provider?
when i'm ready to get licensed for my own daycare, will i need my associates?

Our school is currently a 4 star school. We can't be a 5 star school because or director has her associate's degree, not her bachelor's. They prefer to see directors have their master's degree. If you are aiming to be a top day care, you will absolutely have to have your associate's. In fact, you may even have to get your bachelor's.

Check on your department of education (DOE) website for your state and also the licensing division for a daycare business in your state.
your DOE should also have information on alternative teaching certificate programs. It's possible you could get fully certified to teach in your state in 1-2 semesters. A teacher in the public school system will make a lot more than a daycare worker.

You do not have to have any kind of degree at all to open a daycare. I would, however, get at least an ECE certificate just to give you a heads up on what to expect. Good luck!

i dont think you really have to have any specialized training to work in a daycare.this im sure of...as far as having your own i dont think you would even have to have an associates to do that..just have a very good knowledge of the laws required, cpr,, etc etc..you sure as heck dont need a bachleors...
make sure you work in one before deciding to open your own, theres a lot that goes on daycares that would really scare you. haveing to deal with parents that dont really want kids..sad..

It depends on where you live and what that State or county requires you to have to operate a childcare center. Check it out.
