i'm a registered nurse and i respect your enthusiasm to want to help others. the best advice i can give you is to check with your local red cross. they offer a great first aid and cpr course that is low cost and only takes a few hours. they can adequately prepare you for situations you might encounter and advise you on what supplies would be most beneficial to keep handy. good luck!

Bystander or Call for help. Those are the "roles" you should play. As a combat medic in Iraq, I've seen some scary things, but you asking this question frightens me to death. If you don't already know, you have NO business trying to help others. Sign up and take a class to be a first responder. Then you won't have ask questions such as this. Good luck.

first things first, DO NOT BE CAPTAIN AMERICA! make sure you have a card in a first aid class, as well as CPR, you can get sued and many bad things if anything goes wrong. If by chance you are certified in cpr/first aide, just have the basics, sticks for sprangs, bandages, neosporin, the list can go on, go to your local store and find the first aide stuff, they have basic kits available, anything more than what they have to offer you will need your BLS certificate then go to ALS.

Air goes in and out. Blood goes round and round. Any deviation from the before mentioned is bad.
Face Mask-to secure patient's airway.
Tons of 4X4 and tape for wounds.
When you are scurred outta your wits with an emergency just remember ABC. Airway: is it open? If not open it(It would be safer to go to class for the rest of this)If it is open(They are talking to you or making noises)move on to B breathing: Are they breathing? If not breath for them and check C:circulation. Do they have a pulse? If not, you are their new pulse. Begin chest compressions.

Have you been trained in first aid? If you have been, you already know the answers to all of youre questions. If you haven't been, don't call yourself one without that training.
