I have severe arthritis in both knees & back, I can't exercise like normal people that can jump around & walk & run. I have to use a walker or wheel chair, when I walk I can walk for just a few steps & have to sit down again the pain is so bad. I take celebrex for it every day. I heard pools are a good way to get exercise but there its out of the question as I am on a limited budget & the pool fees cost way too much, any suggestions on how I can exercise every day & try to keep fit like I used to be? I would appriciate any suggestions.

Pick up an exercise DVD or tape. There's a few different ones out that are called sit and be fit. You can sit on your chair and do different exercises every other day to keep your muscles moving. That would be the best thing for you. You can even search out some sites on the Internet since you have a computer. Theres alot of information on all type of ideas...

The public swimming pools are inexpensive and many have hot tubs/spas that you would be able to access. Keeping moving is critical with arthritis, you gotta do it and I have another idea. I too took Celebrex, had limited results, then allergic reaction. Today I take Methadone..........I wish I would have tried this fifteen years ago. It has allowed me to keep walking and bending. It has not allowed me to be part of the workforce, but when you hurt so bad every minute, every moment of less pain is worth it. I would discuss this option with your doctor as Methadone is a narcotic and there are rules and regulations you must follow. The Methadone will probably be cheaper also, it's very inexpensive. I am on a limited budget also, but setting aside ten bucks a week for swimming and spa is pretty cheap, give it a try. Good luck.

Try your local YMCA. They have swimming pools with organized 'water aerobics' and even 'arthritis classes'. Exercise is very important and many of the members of the Y tell me that their arthritis feels much better after the pool exercise (they keep the pool at a good temp for arthritis sufferers).

The best news is that the YMCA will offer a reduced or subsidized membership for those on a limited budget. Call your YMCA and ask about their programs for those on a budget. If you are a Senior Citizen ask about the "silver sneakers" program. It gets great reviews and is FREE.

Good luck and I hope you feel better!

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

Your doctor can show you some exercises to do while sitting. Some may involve using an elastic band for resistance or a ball for strengthening. There are some low impact exercises in Pilate's and yoga as well.

Well, I have heard that gin-soaked raisins sometimes help with arthritis.

Raisin Recipe
Empty one box of golden light raisins into a large shallow container. Pour enough gin to completely cover the raisins. Let stand, uncovered, for about seven days until all of the liquid evaporates. Stirring occasionally will help the evaporation process. After the gin has evaporated place the raisins in a closed container... Eat nine raisins a day. If you don't like raisins, put them on your cereal or in a salad. (Note - very little alcohol remains in the raisins once the gin is evaporated - the research of the pharmacy said that the amount of alcohol adds up to one drop of alcohol in all 9 raisins)

Have also heard that smoking pot helps because of pot's anti-inflammatory properties.

Also recommended is apple cider vinegar.

You don't have to stand to exercise. Try sitting or laying down. Just move it, baby! I have arthritis too. Go with what you got now & don't give up.

I don't think stopping is the answer. You need to start out slowly, and then work your way up. I've had the same thing, not only were my knees killing me while excersizing, but I was in pain after working out too. So I would suggest you take it slowly.

Check with your local YMCA. Their rates are reasonable. Maybe your insurance MIGHT cover it if your Doctor wrote a prescription to use as therapy. Talk to him.

see if your doctor will write a prescription for the physical therapy, and have your doc contact your insurance and urge 'prior approval' and help to get insurance to pay for it.
