well i dont go to the doctor becuase they will most likey make me go to the doctor. i cant go to a different one either but it seems like my doctor is kinda agressive he says i HAVE to and not should because 2 or 3 years ago he said i might have to have surgery and i should check my degree but i never did. i regret it now becuase i could have had like the massages ....
im 13 years old. i dont know my degree but my shoulder bone kinda sticks out and one rib is bigger then the other. i think i got it because i always slepe on one side. but no one at school notices. but if i wore a spegitti strap then people might notice
i am really scared of surgery but im just scared that it will get worse and worse and i will end up getting surgery anyways and then the risk of paralyzation will go up...
sometimes i even cry myself to sleep. i dont mind if i have some pain when im old and my back is a LITTLE ugly..... im just really scared of surgery.

hii ur not alone with the scoliosis, i have it too.
my back hurt for a while then my mom noticed the same thing that u have with me, that my shoulder REALLY stuck up higher than my other one. its really not that noticable unless someone actually looked and examined it. but yeah, i went to my doctor of course, and she told me to take these yoga classes or some kinda place to help straighten out my back. i never went, instead i went to a chiropractor, i figured he would know what to do, and he didnt say a word about surgery, he said its pretty common and if i keep treating it then it'll straighten out more but the bad thing is it will never go back to normal, which made me pretty upset, but whatever. the worst thing is not being able to have a baby when im older. so the treatment im getting now with the chiropractor is every few weeks and all he does is crack it and it straightens more and more every time. it doesnt hurt cuz i get these electric thingies put on my back first which feels like a massage.
anyways, i would go to another doctor if i were u, just to see what they'll say. every doctor is different trust me, some dont know what theyre talking about. or, go to a chiropractor. i dont know how bad urs is, so maybe its gotten REALLYY bad that u need the surgery, but i dunno i think there are better solutions.
if u do have to have surgery, like if its the last resort, u'll be sleeping the whole time so its not like it will hurt.
anyway, i hope i helped =)

my son has scoliosis too. Have you triedchirpractic treatment? Sometime a chiropractor can straighten the spine some though many adjustments(popping you back ) over several months. I was told my son had stage 3 when he was 7 and now at 11 he is only stage 1 meaning a 2 stage improvement in just over 4 years of going twice a month to a chiropractor. He may have to use a brace if once he hits puberty his back starts curving more. I know you are scared but if you do not get treated this could hurt your lungs and heart

For the last at least 40 years I have had scoliosis, they tell me it gets worse with age and children. So far I don't think that this is always true. Unlike my aunt who in her 40's had some vertebrae fused (which was the right thing for her), I have been seeing a chiropractor who makes sure I am aligned properly and works on other (recurring because of work) muscle damaged areas. Even with other problems (few of which I see an Md about) I can say there are alternatives.

There may be some alternatives to your situation other than surgery that your doctor is not knowledgeable about.
I have seen remarkable results from specialized, different types of bodywork (not massage). These are alternative modalities, many typical MDs are not educated about them. Hopefully, your parents are open-minded.
You really may be able to avoid surgery, even if you have a moderate to severe scoliosis.
The sources listed below are absolutely legitimate, totally professional and very highly regarded. In addition to these sources, have your parents help you to find a highly qualified osteopathic physician--this is a doctor who specializes in working with the musculo-skeletal system--much more thorough than a chiropractor. Make sure the D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) is trained in cranial osteopathy, also--this is very pertinent and important regarding your scoliosis.
I have personally experienced the therapies listed below and have also witnessed many amazing results from many clients, including one with scoliosis--she used the BioSync method; previously she had used the Rolf Method of Structural Integration. Sometimes you may require a combination of therapies.
Again, have your parents contact these people/organizations. You have nothing to lose, and possibly much to gain.
I am a massage/craniosacral therapist and been in practice for 18 years. I've seen a lot of very serious problems and if one of my clients was in your situation, I would not hesitate to recommend them inquiring into these other therapies.
Best of luck to you. Be courageous.

I think you should see a different doctor because this one has you scared too death....and go get it checked. It could be nothing, like most cases, but if it is something and you wait too long, it may not be fixable. Quit being so paranoid and go and check, it sound's like your making yourself a wreck and you don't know for sure the extent of it. And remember, none of your body parts are symmetrical, one is always a little longer, bigger, fatter...most of the time the differences are so slight, you don't even notice. But if you look close enough....Good Luck. I'm sure if you have it looked into more, and express your fears to your parents and Dr. you'll find your future is not as grim as you are imaging it to be.....

The pain will start soon, you need to stop being silly and go see the Dr. There are treatments that do not involve surgery, that can be tried. Your back will not be a little ugly, it will grow in such a way as to become deformed causing breathing and walking disabilities. When it begins to twist your spine, it will cause you pain 24/7 Go to the DR!!!!!

I'd get the surgery, it's better to look a little "different" than to suffer pain.
