Most cats sleep between 14-16 hours per day. Its very normal, kittens are really playful but as they get older not as much. Id take him to the vet and get checked out, he has to get shots and such soon anyway.

There are very few illnesses that can affect both humans and cats, so kitty porbably didn't catch anything from your brother.

Kittens sleep a lot, but sleeping all day doesn't sound right...

Taking his temperature may not tell you anything. Not all ailments produce a fever. (Do you even know what a kitten's temperature should be?)

I'd get kitty to a vet. If you're short on cash, there's something called Care Credit that many vet practices offer. It's a credit card that allows you to charge health care expenses, and the interest isn't too high if you don't take a real long time to pay it off. You've taken on a big responsibility by adopting this kitten, and you really have to find a way to live up to it. This is what you bargained for when you adopted kitty and you owe it to him to do the right thing.

Ok. Before you go sticking anything up his rear, or in his ear, try worming him. It would be a very odd kitten indeed that did not have worms, so unless you have wormed him, you need to. You can buy worm medicine in the Pet section of Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. Read the directions carefully, be aware the kitten will poop often and sleep a good bit. Be sure to repeat when the package says-it usually takes two doses. If that doesn't work, go to the vet. At the very least, this will do no harm. It fits the symptoms-tiredness and gas-and baby kitties just have worms, they're practically born with them. Good luck.

kittens naturally sleep 23 hours a day, but if your kitty is suddenly sleeping a lot more than he used to I would be concerned too...he probably should see a vet. Could be anemia, or a host of other things, or nothing. I wouldn't bother with the temp taking because it won't really tell you much. You got him pretty young, has he been vaccinated??

added: another thought after reading your updates...your kitty may have worms. This is going to sound gross, but examine his poop. If he has a severe infestation you might see them. If it's minor you might not. Or you can just take a sample to the vet for them to test, should cost less than $20.

Kittens sleep ALL THE TIME. It's necessary for their growth.

Is the kitty eating normally, drinking water and having normal bowel movements? If not, or you suspect something is wrong, check the internet for a low cost vet in your area and go. I assume there is a financial reason you are asking this online and not just taking the kitten to the vet. A sick baby (human OR non-human) is nothing to wait on or mess around with. They go downhill fast...

cats are very lazy. i look at my cat now and she's sleeping. kittens tend to be most energetic and the enegy dose fade away more and more as they get older (same applies although your kitten is still young). if you are very concerened try playing with it. use strings, anything that rolls and it can paw around. catnip workes too, gets them all worked up. but of corse the harder it plays the more it will sleep. also keep in mind, cats are knockternal meaning they are up all night and sleep in the day. Imagine: You are up all night, and most of the morning playing working, ect. You are going to want to sleep! As for the water thing, i scarcly see my cats drinking. they can definatly hold water longer than dogs. if it is urinating every day it's been drinking. if you have further questions/concerns visit or call your vet. i hope i helped! good luck!

don't stick a thermometor in his ear!!!

take him to the vet, he could have heart or blood problems

and if you aren't willing to pay for a $30 check up you shouldn't have a cat. sorry but if you are going to accept this creature into your house, it is your responsibility, getting a cat is an 8-10 year commitment. you are going to have to spend a little money
look up some vets in your area and call them to see what ti would cost to get him check out. at my vet it is like 25 or something. also you need to make sure the cat is nutered and has all his shots.

good luck!!

if hes only 8 weeks old then u dont need to worry about his sleeping patterns its perfectly healthy for him to sleep alot ...yes cats r very playful wen there young but they do get over tired to...they can be chewing there toy and then next thing u noe it the cat is out like a rock...the only thing u really need to worry is if hes drinking and eating properly make sure he goes to the washroom and keep an eye on him wen he does if u notice any blood in his urine he may have a bladder infection and u may have to get him checked if hes got diarreaha tat can be solve jus buy jus giving him water for a couple of days and then feed him a small amount and see if it acts up again if it does he may be allergic to the food ....well i hope this helps :D

Well your kitty could be tired from playing and make sure he drinks and doesn't get dehydrated, and don't give the kitty anything unusual to eat and drink to cause the gas. Pick the kitten up put it on your lap and stroke him in all sorts of places to see his reaction making sure there is no pain he might just stretch and enjoy it. Might mean its just going to be a lazy cat, very relaxed.

Cats normally sleep through much of the day. If you are seriously worried, you might take him in to a vet for a check-up, but he's probably just getting settled in and is comfortable enough to be his true lazy-cat self. It means he's happy with you. :)
