Hello ,kym, b4 i start i have read the other answer's,and i have too say,not one is right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,roflmao,,,there is a difference between normal creme and heavy creme. This you can check for your self,too make sure i'am right,,,,,,
normal cream,,,,,,,,,,,has a protein content of 35%(fat content)
heavy cream,,,,,,,,,,,,,has a protein content of 45%(fat content)
* both can be whipped

*why the difference,ok normal as you will notice is very thin, very liquid,you can use in cocktail's and when heated will break(seperate).
heavy,you can whip,add too sauce's and use it too make ice,cream,can be heated and will not break.

you also can get heavy thickened cream,,,,,,,as if it is already been whipped.

Heavy cream is actually better for whipping than whipping cream, believe it or not. It holds together better and longer and it has a richer, creamier texture. The whipping cream has a lower fat content and whips up quicker, but for taste, texture, and staying power, the heavy cream wins hands down.

Heavy cream is used quite a bit in cooking and baking. Good cream soups, sauces, and top quality quiches always call for heavy cream.

heavy cream and whipping cream are interchangeable, be sure to add a tablespoon of sugar to the cream for regular sweet whipped cream

You can substitute heavy cream for half and half, but careful about the consistency. Also, careful about heavy whipping cream having sugar. Not all do, but some do and can mess with a recipe!

I don't think heavy cream would work well, you would be whipping it for a very long time. Heavy cream is used in chowders especially.
