Ok. My computer recently had a Trojan or a worm. It deleted alot of stuff from my computer. They are as follows: Calculator, Paint, Wordpad, All default games, Outlook Express, and Windows Media Player. It also made it so that the volume icon is gone from the toolbar(and cannot be brought back though the contol panel), and random error messages come up for almost every program that say "This program has encountered an error and needs to be shut down". The programs continue to work if I ignore the error messages, but this has to be caused by something. The worst part of the whole thing is that the CD Driver has been deleted, and any attempts to delete and/ or repair whats left have been unsuccessful. I'm assuming the trojan or worm did this so that i cant run a repair with the windows installation disc.

Ok, now I need serious help here. Don't spam or give me pointless answers. only answer if you think you can help me fix this problem. Thank you.

You could try booting the computer into safe mode (Hold F8 while the computer is starting up, start "Safe Mode")

You may be able to read the CDs there, but I'm not sure. At the very least you could always reboot the computer with the CD in the drive. your motherboard doesn't need Windows' CD driver to read it, so that will always work.

OMG! This is something I have never heard of before... I am 13 but I promise you I am the smartest 13 year old ever! Did you try going into safe mode on your computer? When your computer is starting to boot up and you get all of those letters and numbers when booting hit the F8 key constantly. See if you can do anything in there, see if you see paint or your games. If not then the bug has deleted it completly and you might need to hire a repair guy for computers, my dad is one of those people, and they will prolly be able to help you. I know all of this because my dad has his own bussiness so I know wut i am talking about and everytime someone brings his a computer, he ALWAYS fixes it. If I didn;t help much I am gunna say this, I am not any where near as good as my dad. Hope I helped.. PEACE OUT!

Go to Nortons below, download 15 day full trail, reboot and run the anti virus software.

If your problem persists, then you need to do a Hard Recovery. This is when you reformat your drives to factory specifications when it came out of the box.

Now, you can save files and such. But KEEP TRACK. Reason is when you do the hard recover and load your programs or files back, then RUN the antivirus program again, in case you picked up any hitchhikers.

Reformatting will download the drivers to recognize your CD drives again.

The morale of the story is you need to have antivirus software wherethere you like it or not. I like Nortons as it stays in the background so if somethings tries to sneak in, it has done me proud. No viruses yet.

Google the OEM sites and you can sometimes get the software there cheaper. BUT you have to shop the OEM sites around.

I'm guessing that this trojan has been removed completely.
The best thing to do is re-install windows. You should be able to boot the install CD and just go through the install process, just don't tell it to format the drive. The install disc may have a repair installation option as well, which would be just as good.
