What would you choose to be a symbol for Gluttony and why? I want serious answers that have to do with Christianity, something meaningful, as it is one of the "7 Deadly Sins". Please, only serious answers. I dont' want to hear any more "Rosie O'Donnel" or "overweight guy" or "fat pig". Please, those answers are ridiculous. Dont' bother if you have nothing to say. I'd rather see no answers than a bunch of ridiculous ones. Thank you.

Ok, how about the rich man in Jesus' story about the rich man and Lazarus the beggar.
You remember the story, of the rich man who had all sorts of good things in life, and all he did was enjoy his senses, and never pitied the beggar Lazarus who begged at his gate.
Then when they both died the rich man wound up in hell and saw Lazarus in Abraham's bosom and asked Abraham to send Lazarus down with a drop of water. Even in hell, all he wanted was to enjoy his senses, and thought of the blessed saint as a servant to be sent here and there, with a drink of water.
that's gluttony. Enjoying one's senses to the exclusion of all greater good.

A symbol or a sign?

I suppose Jabba the Hutt could be a symbol for Gluttony if that is all you want.

A *sign* that you might be a glutton, however, is if someone in your presence is starving, yet you continue to eat more than your own fair share and give nothing to alleviate the hunger of the other. Does that sound nice?

Given the moral philosophy of many Americans in embracing greed and taking more than they need or deserve and "do unto others before they do unto you," you might also look to the USA as a symbol of gluttony.

She-nerd has the Christian symbol of gluttony pegged though. It's the rich man and Lazarus.

Gluttony is an over indulgence mainly associated with food and drink. It is the inability to control an appetite for the finer things of life. Over indulgence can take many forms. When someone gets a taste for something and soon they just can't get enough of it.
Perhaps a good symbol would be something like a super-size type of fast food type of meal or a over-sized submarine sandwich with the works.

A mythical creature called a Gulon is a symbol for gluttony because it eats, squeeze themselves through a tree, and search for food again.

A real animal that could serve as symbol for gluttony would be a shrew. These animals have high metabolisms and voracacious appetites. They must eat constantly and will die within hours of starvation.
