It depends. If you are a high schooler, then no he doesn't and you don't really love him. It is impossible to even understand the concept of love without major experience and thought.

well i ussally tell my gf and say i love you baby or i will write her emails. sometimes if your dating the bf is ussally protective of you that means he cares and get jelaouse lol nothing wrong with that also just showing things that they care for you that means they love you

it's in what he does,
he'll want you to meet his friends, family
the way he holds you
he'll give up otherwise important social events to spend time with you (or spend time where you want to)

Its all in the way they are with you. You know when they are sincere and honest towards your feeling, when he tells you that you are the world to him and means it. Your heart will feel it everytime he tells you how he feels and you feel it..
