My recommendation is start a saxophone quartet. That way you get opportunity to display your skills yet the comfort of playing in a group!

Band. Reason #1, there is no saxophone in an orchestra. (Except in rare cases like Lt. Kije Suite by Prokofiev) Most communities have local bands. Go online or check the paper to find one and show up. Reason #2 An ensemble would be good, but that means you already know other musicians for your group, and thusly would not be asking where you can play. Finding a local band would probably help you get into an ensemble.

In your case, probably an ensemble since it involves a smaller group of people. I would think that it would be difficult for you to find enough people to put together a band or orchestra, especially since there's no formal program at your school.

Bands and wind ensembles generally have a larger repertoire for saxophones.
