King Solomon(pbuh) was a king that lived around 500 BC circa. He is son of David(pbuh). translated as "the beloved". Considered to be the greatest kings of all time. They are both considered to be prophets in islam, but they also had a prophet named nathan(pbuh) upon thier throne. Translated as "the gift". Solomon(pbuh) means peace in hebrew. So in essential, his name is defined in english as King of PEACE in exact. He is revered as being so great because what he would do is have people give up all of thier wealth and simply rely upon each others and GOD(mashallah). Legend has it that he even had roads made of gold leading to his kingdom. That is why there is the legend of solomon's(pbuh) mine. It contains all of the riches amassed from his kingdom. Which is very logical. All you really need is food, clothing, shelter, and GOD. Simple enough. Solomon(pbuh) is said to of had 500 wives. But he ended up marrying Queen of Sheba. You have to read some of the stories of thier meetings. They are nice. How she would send gifts of gold to him intrigued by his greatness in the land. He would just send them back laughing(not mocking, but it was just kind of funny to him). He had roads of gold in his kingdom and here she was sending gold as if he really cared for things like that. But she did not know. She never visited his kingdom till after she sent the gold. Good love story.
In Rastafarianism, he is great because he is the father of thier messiah. Haile Salassie(Prince Tafari). In that religion, solomon(pbuh) is the father of thier messiah. His great decendant. That is why they talk about zion so much. To them, zion is the heart of David(pbuh). His heart written in the psalms. At least to my understanding. It is more of a mental state to reach for peace on a world wide basis. For the original man to one day return to whence adam(pbuh) came from. Ethiopia.
Oh, and I really don't know what is so special about his temple. I am not jewish. I have read the bible once, but only cared for the morality of GOD in that scripture. To notice HIS actions that many question. PEACE!
