My optimal answer to you is travel light and pack only a credit card. You could buy most anything you want in Paris, so why the hassle of packing.

However, since not everyone can afford to do that, pack enough summer cloths and enough toiletries for immediate use. Anything else you may need you can buy there.

Paris is one of the most expensive cities of the world. However, when you get to your destination I am sure the local gentry will give you tips on reasonable buys.

Good Luck!

i'd start with looking at the things that you use on a normal basis.

for ex, hairdryer. it's probably not going to work in europe since american products are rated for 110V. either buy a converter now or buy a european hairdryer on ebay.

conversion plugs, for your laptop, cell phone charger, etc. these are not expensive things to buy in the US or ebay, but abroad, they can be pricey because they don't sell as much generic stuff as here.

toiletry products, if you're very particularly about the things you use.

i'd recommend getting Space Bags for your clothes, since they help to save room in your luggage and then you can pack more.

first aid kit with medication you use often.

even very minor things like nail clippers, scissors, etc. it can be a pain to buy once you're there, since you might have an urgent need for it late at night, then find out everything's closed. a Swiss Army knife would be a handy thing to have abroad (packed in your checked luggage of course).

also consider your communication needs. is it a good idea to lug around you 10lb, 8-yr laptop or have you been thinking about getting a new lighter one anyway? does your cell phone work abroad or do you need to buy a new model? do your chargers come with converters built-in?

tip:
you can put as much liquid in as big a container as you want in the checked baggage. for carry on luggage.. yeah you have to put all of it into 1 ziplock bag per person... and all of that is not going to fit into 1 bag. plus you have to have everything in a 3 oz. container, no matter what.

1 bag per person, 50 lbs or less

visit tsa.gov for complete details of what 2 bring! You also need to list how long u r staying there....dont 4het ur school stuff!
