Download info on them so she can read it. get a job, and stick to it, or do chores for her without being asked to do so, for six months to show u are serious. Actions speak louder then words !!!!!!!

If the ONLY reason your parents won't allow you to get a dog is the allergy, you can print some information supporting your position.

I suspect that the allergy is an excuse, and your parents simply don't want a dog, or don't feel you are responsible enough to take care of it. Dogs are a LOT of work, especially in the first year as they are being trained and integrating into your family. I thought I could handle it at 16 because I was reasonably mature for my age, but my mother still had to take care of the dog during the day while I was at school, and had to pay for food, vet bills, training, etc.

I googled "maltese" and "hypo-allergenic" and I found more sites that say they're NOT than sites that say they are. You might want to look into this further. Perhaps there is another kind of pet you could get if it doesn't work out?

Hypoallergenic doesn't mean they carry NO dander, it means that they carry less than other breeds and Maltese are not hypoallergenic anyway. If your grandma is allergic, you need to respect that and wait until you're on your own for a dog. It's not worth putting your grandma through the trouble of reactions. Seriously! I'm not trying to be a downer, just being realistic.

Do the research, also, behave more responsibly, and help your grandmother more around the house show her you are up to taking care of the dog, so far the only hypo-allergenic dog I've ever heard of is a poodle. If a dog can shed it can create dander.

There is no such thing as hypoallergenic dogs. Just some dogs are less prone to agrivating people with allergies. To find out if your grandma could handle a breed, she'd need to spend time with the breed, maybe a friend's dog or ask a breeder for nothing more than some time. You also should know that with purchase, vet bills, supplies and food, this dog will cost in the thousands. Do your parents want to spend that?

Find some written documentation that explains all about the benefits of owning a Maltese Terrier, and show it to your Grandmother.

Please remember a pet is for life and unless you are willing to take care of it and full responsibility for it, there is no point in getting a dog.

I knew some people who allowed their German Shepherd dog to die of a disease that could have been prevented. This dog died because the owners did not want to get hair on their car seats.

What makes this story even worse for me is that these people are related to me, and were always quick to blame my mother if one of our many healthy, obedience trained, German Shepherds escaped because the gate blew open on a windy day.

prove that they are hypo-allergenic with some sort of reliable information and at the same time, prove that you are responsible enough to get a pet by helping with chores and stuff. also, show them that you really want to get a dog by not giving up.

The other given answers are some good advice. I'll choose then not to give one. I do however suggest you try to find the movie 'Monkey Trouble'. It's a good movie for children and adults alike and relates to your problem. Your grandma will probably also like it and when it's over, you could probably talk to her a bit easier about having a pet. She may even have some good suggestions or alternatives.

malteses' do have dander. try a poodle or a bichon frise, maybe a chihuahua. gather your information, educate yourself on every detail of the breed and start proving that you're responsible enough to care for a pet on your own. best of luck.

There are no real hypo-allergenic dogs. If they have har, they have dander.

If you respect your grandmother whom you say that you live with then don't get a dog as it will make her miserable. She should be shown the utmost respect as she did bring into the world and raise one of your parents.
