I have read from it most of my entire life, and it is very good. It is God's holy word untainted by the intellectual arrogance of our day. The KJV will teach you how to think as you let God speak to your heart.

The King James Version of the bible wasn't meant to be read by human beings whatsoever. They use very complicated and archaic word usage that you probably aren't familiar with, and so you find yourself getting lost in each sentence. Try reading the plain old latin, it's actually much more understandable.

For example, compare this passage from Proverbs 1:33. Here's the King James Version and the vulgate latin version:

"But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil." (How hearkeneth can possibly be a word, I have no idea.)

"qui autem me audierit absque terrore requiescet et abundantia perfruetur malorum timore sublato "

The word choice, as is evident, is much better. That, and it doesn't have all the odd old English stylings. Of course, it's lost on you if you don't speak latin - it's a rare and most valuable gift.

The King James Version is very literal. In most cases it does not attempt to translate idioms, and preserves the original word order as long it doesn't compromise English grammar. If you practice, look up every word that you don't understand, and compare it to other translations (preferably the New King James, RSV, and NIV), then you will get the hang of it.

Roy,
You might want to read from the KJV and NIV at the same time to compare and contrast them. It certainly makes the understanding m uch easier. I believe that you will get used to the KJV if you continue to read it though. I like to read from it. Have a great evening.

I prefer using ASV instead of KJV lately.

I found out that KJV added one verse to support the Trinity doctrine, which is not found in all other Bible version...

I also use NKJV for easy read.

Because the words there are very hard to read, and it's not used these days, KJV is in Old English.

I know what you mean, why should you have to think about the simplest words???????

Read the NIV or NKJV thats what I do! I don't get a headache from it, I get understanding and knowledge of God, I think He likes it better that way.
