You can assume it is the cat, which may be true, but to find out for sure, you'll want to go to an allergist and be tested.

In the meantime, you can try a few things:
1. Use a saline nasal spray -- you can get one at Sam's or Walmart for about a dollar a bottle. This will keep your sinuses flushed and won't hurt your sinus membranes in the process. It may taste pretty strange.
2. Gargle with a cap full (note, this is a small amount) of hydrogen peroxide a few times each day. That helps kill off the irritants that cause your sinuses to go haywire. WARNING: It is NOT to be swallowed, and it does get pretty foamy. But the cool thing is that this is a natural teeth whitener at the same time you're treating your sinus condition.
3. Now for the cat: Try washing your cat. Yep. Wash the cat. This is not for the faint of heart, but it can be and has been done. I used to wash our white long-hair frequently (once a month) due to his tendancy to attract fleas (he was indoor/outdoor).
4. Now for the carpet: If it has been awhile since you changed out your carpet, you could have some exceedingly nasty stuff living there. It could be nice looking on the top side and horrifyingly gross on the bottom side. Excellent breeding ground for all kinds of allergy-causing creepy things. When we moved to our new house, I ripped up all the carpet in the house and threw it out. Wow, was it disgusting! But it's removal did help the allergies.
5. Now for the air conditioner/heater filters: Get the really good ones -- about $9.00 each -- and make sure you change them out when they start getting dirty.
6. Dust mites could be the culprit. Allergy stores carry special zipper cases made from material that lock out the mites from getting into your nose while you sleep. They even make them for mattresses.

Ain't allergies fun? Don't forget to make that appointment with your allergist! Oh. You might have your allergist check your nose to see if you might have a deviated septum or polyps. That can also created that clogged feeling.

You could have allergies (dust mites? pets?). Or you could have non-allergic rhinitis. Don't use the OTC nasal sprays for more than a couple days, if used long term they will damage your sinuses. I'd go to the doctor and get some nasal spray for allergies. If you can't do that try taking some claritin OTC and a decongestent like sudafed and see if it improves.

Also good (if it does not bother you) is rinsing out your sinuses with saline. Plenty of kits on the market. One is http://www.nasalrinse.com/. I am allergic to my cat and do this a couple times a week. The rinse feels good once you are used to it.

Your nose produces a ton of mucus when you're sick, because it's part of your body's way of trying to flush out the virus/keep it out of your lungs. Your nose gets stuffy because your mucus membranes up in your nose become swollen from all the overproduction of mucus. Try breathing in some steam in a hot shower/over a tea kettle, and/or put a tiny bit of Vicks Vaporub on the inside of each nostril and breathe deeply. Also, don't listen to that "Allan" person above my answer. He doesn't know what he's talking about; blowing your nose hard will just make your mucus membranes more irritated.

Sounds like allergies to me. I have the same exact thing, certain times of the year. I use a little vicks when my nose is clogged along with a steamy shower...that seems to work. I dont use any nasal sprays as they dont do any good. If it is that annoying you could go to a specialist in allergies...but I live with mine.

It could be allergies, you should talk to your doctor about getting an allergy test done. I have really bad allergies and use a nasal spray called Hydra-Sense (Gentle Mist) It is all natural and has no preservatives in it. I find it helps unplug my sinuses when they get bad. You can buy it at Wal-mart.

Sounds like allergies. Try a good over the counter non drowsy allergy medicine until you can go to the doctor and get a prescription one. Some doctors will prescribe one for you without test, but some may require you to go for allergy testing first.

Could be the cat, could be something blooming outside like pollen, that's what really bothers me. Go out and get some kind of pill to take like Claritin.

you possibly need an xray to see if you have blocked sinuses, sometimes allergy, possibility it could be your cat or some flowers, trees that are setting you off. the doctor can order an xray as you would be feeling fairly miserable by now
