I've done some research and the max seems to be around $15/hr...is that correct. Seems very low to me for what you do. Please tell me all you have time for because I'm trying to decide on careers right now. Also, do MA's usually do front & back office or just one or the other? Do you wish you had done something else? Thank you!!!!

I've been a medical assistant for ten years. I love what I do but it can be stressful. Working for physicians is hard, unless you have one you get along with. 15.00 an hour is high but then again it depends on where you live, cost of living etc. Most MA's work in the back office, I take vitals, lots of paperwork, refill meds, you can assist in many in office procedures, draw blood, working in the lab is fun. I love what I do, I am happy about my career choice and Ive been working on my nursing degree so I can make more money. If you really care about helping people then the medical field is the way to go. Good luck

I was an MA for a long time...I really enjoyed the patients but as you said - you max out at about $15.oo/hr. If you can afford it and have time...I suggest nursing school as nurses are in very high demand and can make a ton of money. If this isn't an option and you enjoy working with patients - it would be fulfilling. On a side note - I think that hospitals have higher hourly rates.

Im a nurse - DO NOT get suckered in to going to one of those private 'career colleges' which will charge you an upwards of $8000 for the education. I know many MA'S who got ripped off by them, and many MA's who arent working as such - they are working as a CNA.

i like that these people have tryed to help others even if they don't realize it and what bothers me the most about medical assistants is that hey know what is going on but can not use there knowledge to practice because of state and goverment restictions
