Copernicus died in 1543 of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 70.

Copernicus, who was a Polish priest (although he has been called an agnostic) said that the Sun was the center of the universe, and went against all known knowledge, religion, and teachings.

Wikipedia says

'Legend has it that the first printed copy of De revolutionibus was placed in Copernicus' hands on the very day he died, allowing him to take farewell of his opus vitae (life's work). He is reputed to have woken from a stroke-induced coma, looked at his book, and died peacefully.'

Shows what I know. I thought he was burned at the stake for his theories. I know many astronomers of the day were for daring to suggest what the universe was like instead of what the bible said it was like!

He was Catholic, and, contrary to popular belief, the Pope and cardinals were very supportive of his work.
