i have know idea, but maybe it could be cause the brain controls everything in you so it can tell them to start working again, but nothing controls the brain to tell it to restart. just a guess.

Not quite sure what you mean by "restart" - a pancreas than does nt make nsulin? A kidney than no longer filters the blood?

Not sure if they can be "restarted" either.

After the heart stops, you usually have about 10 minutes to re-start until the chances of sucessful recovery are almost nil.

Interestingly though, in cases where the person has drowned in COLD water, there have been cases of people being brought back to life around an ** HOUR ** after death. The coldness having stopped the brain deteriorating too much.

The brain is the most (by far) delicate organ from a "how long can it last without oxygen" point of view - this is why transplants of other organs need to be done in a timeyl manner - but often hours are possible rather than minutes.

Hope that helps a little.

Hypothermia can occasionally look like brain death (as well as everthing else), but as the saying goes, you ain't dead until you're warm and dead.
Also, don't get too excited about the others. Getting a heart started again works about half the time on TV, but only about 2% of the time in real life. Death is a poor prognostic sign.

The brain is exquisitely sensitive to lack of oxygen or glucose -- deficiency in either one rapidly produces neuronal death in minutes. Neurons may potentially regrow if damaged, but not if they are dead. Restarting a brain is basically asking a pile of scar tissue to direct every function in your body.

When brain cells are dead or damaged, they cannot be replaced or restored.

After 20, we lose brain cells (neurons) every day for the rest of our lives. We cannot make new ones. It is irreversible, like aging.

That's why we are told to wear a helmet when we bike, skate, ski or do construction work to protect the head.

brain cell dies afetr 8-10 minutes of lacking oxygen, depending on the temperature of the environment. Once it dies, neuron cannot be repaired.
