If you use the vinegar, be careful as it can etch the enamel on your teeth and burn your stomach! A teaspoon in a glass of warm water perhaps.
I have also read that sipping on the warmest water that you can tolerate also helps.
Some acid reflux is actually sometimes caused by medications. If you are on any you might want to check that out. Sleep with pillows slightly raised up and do not eat 4 hours at least before going to sleep. Feel better soon!

First, eat smaller meals and more often. The fuller your stomach, the more likely is acid reflux.
Secondly, try separating your food groups. Eat only meat for one meal and potatoes for another meal. The reason is that meat, a protein, requires hydrochloric acid for digestion, and this is an acid.
Potatoes, however, are starchy and require an alcaline digestive fluid. When you eat both at once, your body tries to secrete these fluids which actually cancel each other out, so the body keeps secreting more and more.
Always sit down to eat and relax. Being nervous really makes acid reflux worse.
The smaller a meal you eat, the less you'll have these problems. It's healthier to eat more often and smaller portions anyway.

Slippery Elm Bark. To help 'reline; a sore stomach. Extra pillow at night or prop bed head up a few inches. But you are describing a mechanical problem that requires a sensible endoscopic examination to be orderd by your doctor. It is extremely important not to have that acid burning and changing the cells lining your oesophagus. You may indeed have hiatus hernia, you could also have a duodenal ulcer because the stomach will then 'bloat' and hold its food back much longer to give the sore duodenum a chance to heal. Sometimes there can be a bacterial overgrowth that has come up from lower in the intestinal tract. Basically go back to the doctor and hassle them until it is fixed.

I've always hurd to eat a spoonful of mustard but it seems to me that would make it worse and I know the taste can't be good at all. But like I said the saying has been around for as long as I can remember.
