Did traveling circuses of old times, have artists who touch-up and update their paintings?

Sure, they had maintenance people, but did they have specialized talented artists who traveled too, to maintain and keep up with their posters, wagons, lettering etc. If so, was there a nickname for them or some special title?

Sure. I saw a tv show a while ago that said there's one guy still doing it.

I think they were called 'painters.'
