It's DIET coke.
The sugar in the Mentos reacts with the artificial sugar in the DIET coke and causes a violent chemical reaction that releases a lot of gas. Yes, it can be dangerous to drink that!
They guy probably held the Mentos in his mouth or even swallowed them before drinking the coke, and thus the big volume of gas released in his stomach and esophagus caused the damage.

A person can explode when doing that? Rather not... Probably just a little face shock.. it might just be an idiot just saying things.
I think mentos has some odd acidic reaction to caffiene in coke, which makes a reaction that causes it to explode

i dont know much about it. i thought it only worked in diet coke. they have it on youtube.com and the mythbusters did a thing on it not too long ago. something about a reaction of something in the coke and something in the candy but didnt really pay too much attention to it. i oftend wondered what would happen to a person if they drank the coke and ate a mentos. i wouldnt think it would make them explode because our bodies have other chemicals in them that may interfere.

They had an episode on TV called Mythbusters about this. I saw that bottle of pop blow like a fountain. Must have something to do with a rapid release of the CO2 in the coke....I think it was Discovery Channel....

I saw a demonstration on MYTHBUSTERS a couple of weeks back about what happens when you drop a menthos or 2 into a bottle of diet coke... what an eruption you get!!!
If you drank a large amount of diet coke and then swallowed a menthos, then
I think that the geyser would seek the route of least Resistance and go up your esophagus and out of your mouth.
IF you decide to do this, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tape it, and then get it onto the Internet! PLEASE!
Thank you, come again!

The myth busters types did a show on it and it builds up excess pressure in the plastic bottle and it does explode.
