Cut an 'x' on one side of the chestnut, put on a cookie sheet and bake in a 425 degree oven for about 20 minutes, or until the 'x' has spread apart a bit and they smell good and look slightly golden. You have to peel them right away, and they should come off the shell pretty easily. Delish! I remember my folks telling me about boiling them, yet they were professional cooks and always did it in the oven! Good luck!

Ever heard the song "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"? So? But, I remember my mother cutting an X in them and then putting them on a cookie sheet in the oven. We always had them at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

pierce a hole in each chestnut, then drizzle a little olive oil and bake about 10 to 20 minutes in oven depending how your oven bakes, anyway keep checking them. Don't burn

2 favorites...either in a dutch oven untill they crack open, or tin foil in the ashes of a fire. Only way to do it.
