Matthew 22:35-40 Most Christian groups take this to mean that only two commandments are applicable or required in modern day society for non-Hebrews: love God and love your neighbor. This interpretation is used to completely avoid the law and its teachings. What this really means is that these are the foundation or umbrella under which all the laws are encompassed. That's why Christ says to hang all the law on these, not forget all but these.

Many, many scriptures are taken out of context by lots of different people in lots of different faiths. I think it's something most of us have done at least once in our lives (although probably not on purpose).

One that I've seen a few times on this board is the one in Revelations about people being cursed for adding or taking away from the book. I think a lot of people use that to attack other faiths without realizing that John wrote Revelations before he wrote John 1, 2, and 3 - which leads them to apply it to more than just the book of Revelations.

I don't mean to attack others by pointing that out. Like I said, we all do it at one time or another, and usually not on purpose.

Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, [which is] the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Jehovah witnesses do not take blood transfusion because they think this and similar verses are against it. Yet, scientifically, it is a different thing to take blood in digestive tract from taking blood in the veins.

In the OT it is anything to do with tithing -- the fundies want your money badly -- and in the NT it is the entire book of Revelation which all rational people know already came to pass in the very late first century after Christianity became highly illegal. I guess you can also throw in the mumbo-jumbo about the Rapture, too!

fundamentalist groups tear almost all of scripture out of context, hence there is so many of them, they even misuse the same scripture amongst themselves this is promoted by the false doctrine of faith alone and sola scriptura(scripture alone). it would take some time to list and cite the inconsistencies with fundamentalist churches from a catholic perspective try scripturecatholic.com, you will see the difference from scripture where fundamentalist and catholics differ on issues such as the blessed mary, the rapture, saints, call no man father, the papacy, infallibility etc. again this answer is not intended to offend any one and is offered as my humble opinion regarding the topic. the site also refutes scripture alone and faith alone.

3John Verse 2 "Beloved, I wish above all thing that thou mayest prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul prospereth".
Many preachers teach that this verse says that God wants people to be healthy, wealthy, and wealthier. But God is not speaking in this verse. John is writing to Gaius and saying something to the effect of "Have a good day" or "I wish you well".
Totally taken out of context.

The parts that say that a woman should submit herself to their husbands. (Ephesians 5:21 et al) and obey unconditionally.
Most people do not also add that it requires:
Husbands love your wives -Ephesians 5:25
If anyone honestly believes that a woman should submit and obey men, that they can order them around, they are stupid. I can tell you that you can never tell a woman to do anything! She will do what she wants. Therefore; if you truly love a woman, you would not make her submit or obey, she would do it because she wants to because you love her. I snicker when I hear others say the opposite, knowing that they do not understand, appreciate, or deserve a woman.

Gen. 6:1-4 And it came to pass, when the men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he is also flesh: yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days. And also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
People believe that evil angles came from heaven and had sex with the daughters of men, and had children by them and the children were giants. The sons of God were Adam, Seth, Methuselah, Enoch, and others who believed God. They saw that Cain's female off springs where beautiful, and they married as many as they wanted and their off springs became widespread, high repute; fame.

Gen 1:26. Trinitarians twist this verse to say it supports the trinity, although this verse does not even imply that 3 co-equal, co-eternal persons make up one God.

All of it

Then said Rabbi Eleazar to his father: What meaneth the words: "Who would not fear thee, Oh King of nations?" (Jer. x,, 7). Who is this King of Nations or Gentiles?

Said Rabbi Simeon: "This verse, my son, has been interpreted in various ways, but all alike erroneous, as is proved by the remaining portion of tine verse, "among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee," which closes the mouth of the ungodly who imagine that the Holy One knoweth not and is not acquainted with the thoughts of their hearts. We will now refute their error.
