I believe Jesus existed though I think the historical records are very sketchy - the point is even if he didn't the new testament has some revolutionary ideas in ethics and the sermon on the mount was thousands of years ahead of its time. I just wish more Christians acted how Jesus wanted them to.

As long as people focus on his morals lessons (and isn't that really more important, the teachings more than the man?) then it doesn't matter if it is only a myth.

I don't think even most atheists deny the existence of Jesus. Where the question gets murky and intrigues people from atheists to religious scholars is to what degree he was simply a prophet and to what degree divine.
As to the 'Myth' part of the question, all religions have a little bit of myth in them and even people with no religion, on close inspection will be found to believe in some myth or another.

I believe he existed and was a very wise and influential mortal with much to offer the world.

I'll tell you what trouble me; the way you Christians toss around the word atheist, applying to everyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do. Technically, an atheist is a person who does not believe in God. But a lot of you fundamentalist Christians apply it to people of other faiths; Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, even Catholics, Mormons, Episcopalians, and other Christian denominations.

Do you really believe in a God that would ignore the prayers of billions of Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Catholics, Mormons, Episcopalians and allow them all to suffer for eternity in hell? I could never believe in a God like that, much less worship him.

Though I'm sure the fundamentist Christians here will deny this, it is a fact. Christians---of all denominations, every denomination you ever heard of---make up only one-third of the human beings on this planet. Oh, it's true, at one-third, they are the largest single group. But they still make up only one-third of the people on Earth. That means two-thirds are not Christian. Do you believe that two-thirds of the human beings on this planet will go to hell for all eternity?

Yes, 2 billion people believe in a myth. Roughly the same percentage of the world's population once believed in Zeus, Hermes and Apollo.

So, what's your point?

Most think he existed in some form, although even the evidence of that is scarce. What does the number of modern day Christians have to do with any argument here, the early church was spread by only a few people, the people who it was spread to had no knowledge of the stories of the new religion. It grew threw a lot of force and killing in its early days, and continued from there how all religions do, passed down through family generations.

It is possible he existed, but there is no strong evidence to support it. The Bible is the strongest evidence supporting Jesus' existence.

Other than that, if he did exist, he was more than likely just a man who achieved mythical status. 2 billion Christians believe in him because they are afraid of death. That's the truth.

I think he existed but a lot of legends grew up around him (some were taken from other mythologies). I doubt he actually died on the cross. Crucifixion took days, not hours, and the Romans used it to make an example of the condemned to others, so they left bodies on the cross to rot. They allowed Jesus to be taken down. He was seen by his friends after that. I think it's easier to believe he survived crucifixion, than that he was resurrected from the dead.

Jesus existed and died on the cross to pay the debts of the sinners of the world and ascended into Heaven 3 days later to come back for us (the Rapture) after every ear has had the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. So...yes! I believe it...people that question it aren't wrong for it necessarily, they're just curious...but hopefully they make the right decision which is to believe it. Better safe than sorry...right....
(I'm a Christian by the way...in case you didn't catch that...he he he)*

Yes I believe he existed and his teachings are a good example for all of us to follow. But I do not believe he was the son of god or even a prophet. He was just a man.
