i have old pictures of my grandparents at home and i want to suprize them by adding color to their pics. what is the best software to edit and add realistic colors to pictures that are black and white..i saw one program once, a guy was using a program to edit his old pictures and he made it colorful

I perfer GIMP but IrfanView works very will too.

the best photo software to have is "Adboe Photoshop" however they are expensive it is costly $700 just for one adobe photo shop you can get a trail version after tha than you have to upgrade to the full version. you can find other software you can do the same just as good as adobe photo shop I would look around at compus for difference software photo companies there are some cheaper photo software I only use adobe photo for professional use not for personal usage. for peraonal use of photo software I would find a cheaper photo software I do not have the name though. take a look around and see what fit your need that is best bet for you and good luck I hope it will help you to find the photo software you need. if you cannot afford to buy one and you really want to mnake professional I recommend going to Kinko copier and use their computer that already have adobe photoshop and just get the project done there so you are not wasting money to use the software one time only since they charge hourly.

Probably Adobe Photoshop, but it is a very steep learning curve. Another, FREE program, you can get from Google. Picasa. Go to Google and download it.

Adobe photoshop they have tutorials on the net also to help you, go to goodtutorials.com check out how they turn b&w to color.
