Mostly happens with PCP. Though any dose of lsd of .50 miligrams will cause halucination, flashbacks can happen, usually not that long after though.
Spinal cord? don't know about that.
Stay away from microdots, If you really want to try that sort of trip I'd go for Peyote cacti, or Salvia divanorum, truffles or shrooms, stick with the natural, its much safer.
An take it slow, you can always put more in, its harder to take it out.

The reason some people get "stuck" in their trips, from what I've observed and believe, I think they're just not meant to have ever tried LSD. Their minds are simply to weak to control the trip and that "energy" (fellow LSD trippers will know what I'm talking about). If you know you have a weak mind then LSD is not and never will be for you. It's as simple as that. If you do have a fairly strong mind, LSD will change the way you look and think about things. This is the number one reason why the government HATES psychedelic drugs. It truly makes you question the wars and government. That's why the hippies and most fellow LSD trippers have no sympathy for any soldier no matter what country. Who cares if your just "following orders", killing another human being is wrong. No matter what stupid country you are in, we are all the human race. No white race, no black race, no Asian race, just the HUMAN race. EDIT: Having a strong mind means you can handle things a lot more calmer and not panicking every time a bad situation comes up. It means a lot of things.

You will have to ask some of the people in asylums. I personally had the misfortune of witnessing first hand what a true (burn out) was when I did some volunteer work at a state facility. I personally would not like to be stuck in that drug induced mental state. I was a teenager at the time I saw this and would never want to take a trip that way.

Contrary to elphabas ignorance, you can get stuck in a trip, and you can have flashback many years later form one occurance. Acid severs nerve endings in your brain causing cascading effects resulting in a so called "trip" Several years later if the severd nerve endings come in contact with one another you will be sent into a sometimes irreversable trip.
Most active users, or plain ignorant people will deny this can happen, but its fact, and i have seen it happen 2 times in my life. Before you try to discredit me as a do gooder who doesnt know, i have prolly done more in my life than anyone responding to this put together, and i watched a friend run straight through a sliding glass door on a bad trip, who now is in a nut house because he thinks he a glass of water and will not lay down in fear of spilling! That was 7 years ago and my last, and he still is there.
P.s. I cleaned my act up, just thought i would clear the air.

If you mean die, then yes.
Psychoactive drugs may have long term effects on the brain that manifest themselves long after the drugs themselves have been flushed out of the body.
So, yes flashbacks are certainly possible.
Drug abuse is not safe, not even legal drugs such as alcohol or nicotine. However if you are going to use drugs it would be a good idea to find out about them beforehand so you can be as safe and smart as almost possible. Safest is simply not using them, but since I like a beer or two I'm not going to suggest that.
I've pasted some authoratitive, non-preachy sites below.

i have never gotten stuck in a trip....but it feels like you're stuck in it when you are in it..i've had some BAD trips and trust me..the stuff is wicked and i haven't done it in 10+ years and i still think i'm not quite right in the head from it. LOL. It really screws ya up! As far as the spinal cord thing I don't know, but I have had weird times where for a minute I feel like I'm trippin, but nothing like the real thing.

I spilled a half vile (about 50 hits of liquid) on me at Knotts scarry farm when I was 19 years old and I thought that I had computer chips implanted in my brain for about 6 months.
It went away and I'm better now.... But never the same.
Hope that helped.

If the set(your mindset or state of mind)and setting(where you are and who you are with)are good ,then generally you are more likely to have a positive experience. It is not a casual choice to make as you will be in a dissociative state for 8 or more hours. It is best to be under supervision of someone you trust implicitly.Failing that, you should be secluded and not among strangers. If you have serious issues that you are suppressing, you may do yourself more harm than good.Do not make a casual choice. It is not a party drug.

You wont get stuck in a trip, but you can get brain damage which will resemble tripping. Trails are the most common. Also it leaves chemical traces in your brain and can release at any time in the future resulting in anouther high.

Don't do LSD! I have a friend.. his parents were both college professors.. He is now in the Phoenix programs in Ca.. He had one bad experience and is ruined.. He is in his 50's now. It happened in his early 20's while in college.. We both played baseball in H.S. both attended concerts in S.F..but he got carried away.. You don't want to get loaded in your formative yrs. It's just not worth it. .
