We own two parakeets and the breeder we bought them from told us that the cere on the beak would change color (like to pink or brown, or whatever) and that would tell us if the parakeets were male or female. The breeder told us the cere would change color by the time the parakeets were 1 years old. However, the parakeets are now 3 years old and there is no visible cere. It is not brown or any color. One parakeet's beak is just plain black, and the other is a pale orange color. What's going on with the cere????

Its not the beak that tells you if it is male or female. Its the cere the part above it, where the nostrils are.If that part is blue it is male.with the exception of albino's(all white with red eyes)and lutino's(all yellow with red eyes) These males will always have a pinkish /purplish cere. For females it will always be white/tan/brown.Even if they are albino's or lutino's.visit this website it might help some

The black and oragne cere are very strange. I have never seen a parakeet with those colors. Are the birds healthy other wise. Keep an eye on it and call a vet if need be. Sometimes males can have very dark blue ceres, but i haven't heard of black.
Good luck

The cere is the area above the beak where the nostrils are.
Your parakeets already have ceres by the time you got them. The colour of the beak does not identify the sex of parakeets.

In my journey, parakeets do extra effective in even numbers with an equivalent male to woman ratio in order that as that they could type pairs. in case you recognize your parakeets gender, attempt in user-friendly words getting between the option gender. purpose for similar length and age if in any respect conceivable. And certain, in case you probably did not improve the cage, the unique parakeet would experience that his area is being intruded upon. Get a clean, larger cage, and introduce the recent and unique parakeet to it at the same time. there will be some bickering before each and every thing, yet except there is honestly damage being executed, enable them set up themselves earlier you do some thing. notwithstanding, if all of us is being really aggressive and harming the different, separate them at present.

Females' are light brown and males' are a greenish blue. This shows up fairly fast, you don't have to wait a whole year!
