All the religions being discussed here are hundreds of years old. Surely some new advances have been made in the field of religion. Are there any new religions, founded in the last fifty years or so? I don't want to worship something made up by a bunch of dead guys - I want to worship something made up by modern humans.

I don't think I could worship aliens or Elvis, unless one of them showed some form of divinity - if I'm going to be in a cult, I want to be the leader of it. If any of you have made up your own belief systems, fill me in on the details. It's getting boring worshipping an infinite but apathetic Universe.

I think the Gaia Theory is the most reasonable of the new religions (circa 1960s). It is based on the idea that evolution is creating a more complex being (as it has been doing so for billions of years). This new being is the combined spiritual and mental power of all living creatures on the planet. We humans haven't progressed enough to create Gaia yet, but we inevitably will. When the planetary Gaia awakes it will provide us with great power and security. I imagine the Garden of Eden, but with our incredibly advanced technology and a huge population.

I like this religion because it empowers us to a wonderful future, is based on evolution, and does not hamper freedom of actions or beliefs. Oddly enough, when we are living in peace with Gaia in a wonderful Garden of Eden, we still would not have met God. We've simply gone up another rung on the evolutionary ladder. God may or may not exist; we will still have the ability to believe or not in the big God.

In the late 90's a bunch of Elvis worshiping religions sprung up. I did a report on them for college a couple years back. Some of them are still around, and it's actually a pretty fascinating religion. They disagree with a separation between worldly and holy, and believe that the experience of life is an ecstatic and wonderful thing, and as holy as anything else.

Your question made me laugh so much I started choking! If you're really that serious about worshiping something made up by "modern humans", than may I suggest that you book yourself on the the next flight to Vegas and sit in on a couple of spins at the Roulette Wheel in Caesars Palace and see how you like it. Seems to be the way to go these days. Lust, Greed, Pride, sound like Fun! Well let me tell you something. Because a spin of the wheel for lucky number 7 is the kind risk you'll be taking with your life if you go that route. If you're REALLY searching for the TRUTH which I believe you are, then you can email me and I'll tell you.

I am starting one!
It will be called, Last Chance To SIYD(send in your dollar).
It will be lightly karma/hellfire based on the teaching that peoples lives will improve if they regularly send me a dollar. And that their individual lives will suffer if they refuse.
Perhaps I will post wise sayings from the 'old-man', and encourage people to not steal, be diligent at work, and love their life partners.

So in interest of providing you with an outlet for your desire to serve a new religion, why not send a dollar to the newly formed Church of the Sent in Dollar?

Each day I have a little ritual where I kneel down in front ofa picture of Dan Brown, take up my dog-eared copy of "The Da Vinci Code", kiss it three times and then chant - "Holy Grail myth plus very stupid people equals bestseller and millions of dollars" until I lapse into a trance-like state.

Me and other worshippers call ourselves "The Plagiarists" in honour of the author of the book

There's this thing called Vicariism which states that God speaks through His creation not the Bible or Koran or Torah alone and that the more you learn and teach, the closer you are to God. Creation is a form of expression so there is something about God behind all that exists.

There are millions of new religions born each day. They are called I or MY or MINE. They consist of seeking for one's own self before any/all else. It is as new as the first scream of a child for a mother's breast and as old as A & E.

Do you want a Revealed Religion, like a prophet seeing God or something?

Or what kind of religion are you looking for? I made up something like a belief system, but it has yet to fly.
