In the case of God,the argument of pascles wager is really nothing but an excuse for people not to be obedient, humbl&submissive to God, right?

Truth is truth;the choices are God or Satan;Heaven or Hell;so pascles wager or not, becuase everybody has a spirit, the spiritual world is gonna affect&does affect everyone. So do people really think that when they stand before God,do they think that the excuse of pascles wager is gonna fly with God?

Deuteronomy 30:15-See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

Sorry, it's goes against who I am to be submissive and to bow down before any God.

The truth is within the framework of your Middle Eastern religion there may be only two choices. However I do not practice your religion.

Pascal's wager is the worst argument for getting someone to believe in any God. Don't you think a God would know you were just believing in him to cover your own butt? You'd be worse off then people who didn't believe.

What if I am right? And instead of dying and seeing your beloved Jesus you see Heimdall? What if it is Anubis you come face to face with or Hades? He would not be amused, to say nothing to the Aztec Gods.

Pascal's wager:

"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"

This is, of course, false.

Some of the problems with the argument:

* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)

* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell

* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else

* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.

* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (somebody mentioned just today praying several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.

* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?

* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

Pascal's wager is exactly about your text. The question is to believe or not to believe and the relative value of each. God accepts faith through whatever vehicle - even our brains making a conscious decision.

That's true, Pascal's wager is used by many to point at Christians and say that they're afraid of hell so that's why they are Christians.

Pascal's wager doesn't take in to account all the other religions throughout Man's history.

Pascal's Wager wouldn't work on me, let alone on an omniscient deity.

So does this mean I now agree with you, Maurice?

What you rather should do is delineate what exactly Pascal's (note spelling) Wager really is.

Truly it is impossible to decide to believe...Faith is a belief not an ideal or mere words but through faith we become new creatures if we are not changed it is not faith.

Methinks you misunderstood the argument.

One of which was that there are NOT only two choices.

It has nothing to do with God's Word or will for mankind...dismiss it
