Did the vet check him for arthritis? We had a husky that got arthritis to the point where he could hardly walk. Sad to say but we ended up having to have him put down because it was very sad to watch him struggle to get up and walk. Sometimes we need to think about the quality of life our pet is having and put that before our own feelings. If it comes to the point where you need to have him put down it will definately break your heart, but you need to remember our pets cant tell us verbally how they're feeling or what hurts and when it gets to the point where it affects the quality of their life then we need to make decisions that are hard.
I know it sucks!! I still think about our dog almost everyday but he's better off.. at least he isnt in pain and struggling to move anymore.
Best of luck to you.. I'd get him checked for arthritis or get some more of the medicine until you decide what the loving thing to do for your dog is.

Heart disease can decrease blood circulation, particularly in the extremities. This may be the connection between your dog's heart condition and inability to walk. If his blood pressure is very low, he will be light-headed and dizzy and may resent moving around. It sounds like the meds worked, so I would go back to the vet and ask for a refill of the prescription. If the drug was something like Lasix (furosemide), it can damage your dog's kidneys, but it sounds like you might be at the point where you'll have to decide which is worse. I'm very sorry this is happening to you. It's so hard to see our beloved pets get old. Best of luck to you...

OK excuse me but PUT THE DOG DOWN??? First a trip back to your vet is in order. They can then decide what cource of action will help your senior dog. Also they have wonderful meds now for all types of joint problems, they work wonders! He may need to have the meds daily. Also their are special slings to help your buddy to get up and to walk until they are steady. Kinda like putting a towel under their belly and holding on the top of his back. Their are some special beds made just for dogs with joint problems. They are great too. First and foremost get him into your vet, sounds like daily medication could do the trick. Good luck :)

I have poodles, one older also. More than likely arthritis. Vet probably gave him Rymadyl for pain, they can walk when on it. It covers the pain. Start him on glucosamine-chondroitant with added MSM. Also give fish oil and Ester C good for joints. The fish oil is also good for the heart and skin.

Call the vet and ask for a refill. I too had a poodle who lived 17 years before she passed away. She had a good life for 16 years before she began to deteriorate and finally passed away. All you can do is show them love and try to ease their infirmities as best you can.

Dogs age differently than humans, but the basics are the same...as we get old, things stop working. You have to evaluate the dog's quality of life. Not to be rude, but it doesn't matter if you are going to be sad if he has to be put to sleep....if the dog is miserable, in pain, or can't function, then you have to do the humane thing. Would you want to be in his situation? Knowing that your "keeper" wouldn't help you because they were worried about being sad? If you love the dog, don't let him suffer.

I know that it is hard to see ones pets getting on in age, but if he is suffering then you should do the right thing by him. To do other wise would be selfish. I don't mean to sound harsh because I have been thru it twice and I know how hard it is to let go of your little companion. Best wishes to you...

Maybe he has arthritis. I would get a vet to check for that because it's not uncommon for older dogs to get it.
Also try getting him dog vitamins and "joint therapy" meds. These are sold at any walmart. They will help!

you're going to have to put him down. his heart is affecting his circulation which is affecting his legs. do him a favor--don't let him suffer.
