I guess that it comes from old Saxon English. In German the word for stupid is blüd, pronounced blued, if you say "Blüde ( pr. bluedy) Kuh!" it means "Stupid Cow!" in English. So, I reckon it's because lots of other English words we use have evolved from the German language. We Brits do love our Olde Worlde Cuss Words! Just my theory!

It's a slightly less offensive word to use in place of "f^@%ing". The origin could be a shortening of the oath "God's blood", but the actual source is not known for sure.

interesting question..don't know but I would guess that the answer might have something to do with it sounding so unsettling to the Victorians. And the mythos of Jack the Ripper pervading the vernacular.

Do they? I know the brits make an effort not to cuss the way americans do. Using less profane language is part of that, I think.

For the same reason americans like saying 'A** H*** and 'F***' , its just a way of expressing anger. Like pants and trousers, cookies and biscuits.

very very bland food
if they leave it raw sometimes, like tartar, or sushi at least it has some flavor
they conquered India and got thousands of cool spices and they don't even use them
they used to fight wars for pepper, now its free here in the US, I always try to use at 3 packets of it
