Genesis 1:26 "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air,over the livestock,over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground".
v.27 So God created man in His own image,in the image of God He created him,male and female He created them.
And God saw all that he had made,and it was very good.

Man created God in his image. Look at all of the human traits and behaviours ascribed to this god. If God had created Man in his image, we would be a lot more impressive than we are.

When God (the real God) created mankind, He created us in His image. Well-designed. An ingenius work of living, breathing engineering. Vast numbers of little details that would never happen by chance (one of numerous reasons evolution does not work): details such as the eyeball working the system of sight, the fact that skin is indigestible so that we can't accidentally eat ourselves absent-mindedly, a higher purpose -- including the tendency and need to look for a higher purpose.
When mankind created god in their own image, it looked very different... kind of like a soap opera. (Study Greek Mythology and you will see what I mean: A whole panoply of gods, all squabbling with each other, back-biting, warring, all dorts of devious shenannigans, and generally a big mess.)
I think it is pretty clear.

We were created in God's image, given the ability to think for ourselves, to love with our whole hearts, to enjoy all of his creation, to appreciate life and all it has to offer; just to mention a few things.
