My 2 cats love milk (even skim milk) but their tummies can't handle it. My other (girl) cat LOVES bananas. Explain that! Also, a vet told me to try getting them chicken baby food, just make sure there's no garlic or onion (toxic to cats). She also recommended salmon flavored cream cheese. Just dab a little on the food and see if the cat will eat the rest of regular cat food. They like canned food more than dry food - so experiment with different kinds. Good Luck!!

No cat food at all? Your cat has probably been spoilt to table food, then, like most cats today.
The best way I've found to retrain: Start with good-quality dry cat food, like IAMS. Choose something runny that your cat will eat: gravy, water drained from a tuna can, or a raw egg (pasteurized - cats can get sick from salmonella just like people). Pour the runny food over the dry food and put that out for the cat to eat when you know he's hungry. Gradually reduce the amount of your added runny stuff over the course of about two weeks until the cat's eating only dry food.
You may also be feeding him too much. Call your veterinarian and find out how much your cat should eat daily. Feed him at the same time each day, and don't leave food out more than a couple of hours; he shouldn't be snacking, and besides, cat food can go bad or stale after a couple of hours.
If Kitty's still getting table scraps, stop today! Not only will this keep him from training to cat food, it will also make him a fat kitty. No more people food. Cat food is designed to give cats essential vitamins and minerals they can't get from the food we eat (kitty vitamin requirements are very different from people vitamin requirements) and if he's eating only table food, you might want to consider a vitamin supplement until he gets weaned to cat food.
If all else fails, put fresh cat food out for him every day and let him go cold turkey. He will not starve in preference to eating the cat food. If you have to do this, however, make especially sure he can't get to people food; seal all table food right away, get rid of scraps immediately, and put a lid on the trash can.
Especially in Siamese and a few other exotic breeds, eating table food instead of cat food can lead to kidney stones and other chronic illnesses. If you need incentive to make your cat stick to his new diet, remember that you may be doubling his life span by making sure he eats right.

Since your cat is a male cat, there is one thing that you want to do for him. Feed him a low magnesium content cat food.
Magnesium is a mineral that has been found to be the cause of urinary tract problems in cats. It is a sad thing to see this happen because your cat may die, because he can't empty his bladder. You must keep his magnesium intake low.
You can do this by feeding him a cat food such as one of the Purina Cat Chows that are low in magnesium. Purina makes a cat chow that is specifically designed to promote a healthy urinary tract. It is also very economical compared to some of the specialty cat foods.
Don't wait for your cat to have urinary problems because if you do you may lose your cat. Begin now! A cat will not starve itself. Set a bowl out and he will eventually eat.

My cat will eat the dry food the humane society was feeding him. I have to give him medicine daily and I have to give it with food. He was eating it with canned cat food and now he just smells it and walks away. I have to now by the pouch kitten food that contains gravy. It is by Iams. He loves the gravy part and licks it up which is fortunate for me as his medicine can dissolve better in that. You can try that. Some people will try putting water on dry food to help their cats eat dry food. I have not fed my kitten any human food so He won't ever stop eating cat food. He already eats things he shouldn't, like Kleenex, toilet paper, cardboard, carpet fibers, etc. He will even chew on wood and metal. I have a weird kitty. They told me I have a kitty with a behavior problem.
He gets enough nutrition through the food he eats. I hope you find a food he likes and that is inexpensive.

Talk to your vet and make sure that the cat doesn't have any kind of parasites or anything that might be causing his loss of appetite. But don't be discouraged, I went through scores of cat foods until I found one mine would eat. Canned Science Diet Savory Chicken is the winner. And don't give him any human food, otherwise he'll never eat the cat food. Start with your vet first though, they will be able to walk you through everything. Good luck!

You'll have to experiment. My neighbours cats like our cat food and ours sometimes like theirs.

cooked chicken, turkey you can give tuna but not too much only once or twice in a month especially if your cat is male because too much tuna can cause urinary tract infections because it is high in magnesium or even cooked beef
