You shouldn't have to bathe a cat ..they take care of that themselves..but if it's got something on it ..just a warm cloth. some cats will let you ...some won't!

Keep it's butt facing you.
Fill in the tub first. Then bring the cat into the bathroom and pet him/her to get it comfy. Then place the cat into the tub ...water about up 1 inch onto it's torso depth. Use the bath water to wash it, soap it and rinse it with a separate pitcher or water. DO NOT run addition water as it will freak the little guy. Drain the water and towel the cat off. AT ALL TIMES WHILE WASHING, KEEP HIS REAR FACING YOU. The cat can't strike you that way.
Let the cat dry itself off in the bath before allowing it out into the rest of the house.
Also only bathe your cat when it is going to be comparatively hot. I always chose the hottest days, when it was 90 degrees at 11 AM. My cats have normally not objected after a few baths...they knew it was refreshing on a hot day. Cats only need a bath about 4 times a year.

First of all, use cat shampoo or human baby shampoo. Other hair shampoos are to harsh for their skin. I use baby shampoo for ours and even then I dilute it a little bit. My cats love baths and always play in the shower when I'm in there. So they get shampooed about once every week to 10 days. They love it, purr the whole time. But it's only the shower that they like, if I have a sink full of water and try to stick them in it....bad things happen. So I would suggest getting one of those shower heads with the hose on it for starters. Then if your cat isn't used to being bathed, you're probably going to need one person to just hold the cat and another to do the shampooing part of things. Then a nice warm fluffy towel to wrap them in when they're done. My oldest likes to sit in front of a heater or lie down on the kitchen floor at the base of the fridge where the warm air comes out, while my kitten prefers the blow dryer after the towel drying is over. Or you can always take it to a groomer. It costs more, but they're used to the wiggling and freaking out. Let them deal with the stress :-)

From personal experience and some research on the subject I have found one that cats are very clean and clean themselves at least 3 times a day (24 hours). Also, a lot of cat professionals say that unless your cat is being entered into a national contest bathing a cat really is required or appropriate.

I don't know if there is a best way to bathe a cat. Each time we bathed ours, it took two of us to bathe it.

what i do is put her in the bathtub with no water in it. and dont have the water running because it scares the cat. i have someone hold her and i take warm cups of water from the sink and poor them on her (not on her face) and put cat shampoo on her and gently massage it into the fur. then i rinse by bringing cups of warm water to the bathtub and poring them on her. then i wrap her in a towel and then towel dry her..it worked well with my cat and she doesnt go crazy. hope i helped!

Trim the claws FIRST. :-) Then use any good human shampoo. Rinse, and repeat if necessary. I usually bathe my Turkish Angora about twice a year. Have a couple of towels handy, one for you and one for the cat. Make sure you get the cat as dry as possible. I use a hairdryer on mine as much as he will let me.
