I am moving back east, and I don't have enough money or stuff to constitute renting a huge Penske or Uhaul truck, but it would be great if I could attach a trailer to my car... I just don't know if one will fit on my 2003 Dodge Intrepid... does anyone know if this is doable?

yes you can hook a trailer hitch up, its about 120 bucks like the one fella said, and about 4 bolts to the rear frame, i have a 1996 intrepid and have a trailer hitch, that i pull my 1200 pound camper trailer, and my boat on top or that, never had an issue with the trans as long as you do regular maintenance. just try not to exceed the 1500 pound mark. My friend also has a 2001 intrepid with a trailer hitch and he pulls his speed boat around with it and has no issues, the hardest part about it is the wiring of the light harness for the trailer.

Your best bet is to rent a UHAUL truck, you can get a small one for pretty cheap. Cars were not meant to tow trailers. If you want to tow a trailer buy a truck. It puts too much stress on the car's engine. Plus pulling a trailer with that size of a car will cost you more in gas than it would have it you would have just spent the money on the UHAUL.

Adding a tow package to your car will cost around $300 or more, plus to correctly configure your car you would need a transmission cooler installed at around $100-150. Plus the extra wear and tear on your small car, its just not worth the risk.

You can, but it is not recommended, especially if your ride is before 1998. Dodge tranny's have never been at best reliable. But if you must, install a transmission oil cooler. When you are towing, make sure you lock out overdrive. The added costs to modify and gas mileage may make the U-Haul truck cost economical

Best is to rent the truck and pull your car on a trailer.
