You can certainly start at that age, or even younger, but make it FUN. I used to take my son shopping. The fruit and veg section of a supermarket is BRILLIANT.

I want a RED apple
I want TWO bananas.
I want a SMALLER melon.

Actually, whenever they start noticing objects is really a good age for them to be introduced. Point out the shapes, colors, sounds made when pronounced and so on. I read with my 2 year old every night and she is already aware of left to right moverment, top to bottom, picture to text relationships, ending of the book, and even notices inflection of voice between characters. Letters and numbers can be taught during drawing sessons together. Having her/him imitate what you draw or even guiding their hands while you both do this activity. Your child will naturally want to repeat what you are doing. Always remain very pos. with your child while they are learning these techniques. Another thing that is fun to do is hang a cookie sheet in your child's room that is at their eye level and place a variety of magnetic letters on them. This will encourage your child to become familiar with letters and not fear working with them, and in some cases will even encourage them to formulate and ask their own questions about the letters (which should be your over all goal).

I hope this helps.

Barbo

You really should begin teaching letters, numbers, shapes and colors at age 2 - but it's never too late. Buy some flash cards. They really work well and I'm sure you'll love the results.

It would help their early stimulation, so yes. But make it fun. What I would do is put on an educational program like Sesame Street once or twice a week. Start off by teaching your 3 yr old the alphabet song, or his or her numbers 1-10.

Hope this helped!

I Started fron about two mabey younger, the easiest way is to add learing to your every day lives. LIke look at the blue truck ,ball block sky, car toy , shirt ect..Describe and lable every thing that you do !! You can use the same principle witl numbers and letters EG could you get me 1 cup, can you get me two blocks... STart with the1st letter in their name, EG for Ellie, spot and point out all the E's ect make a game of it! Children develope a desire to learn before the age of two so make the most of it! ENjoy!

It is never to early to teach your child. My 2 1/2 year old is already reading some words and doing addition....and my 1 1/2 year old can count to twenty. If you work with them and make it fun it is amazing what kids can pick up on.

Oh yes! I started all that with my son when he was a year old. hes 3 and a 1/2 now and knows 10 colors, can count to 21, knows his ABC's etc etc. Keep at it when you start and make it into a game with them. That way it keeps them interested.

I started teaching my nephew to recognize the basic colors (red green, blue, white, etc) when he was about 2 1/2. However, I waited until he was about 3 1/2 to start with the others, but take your cues from the child. No one but the child knows whether it is time. If the child is curious, it is time.

yea as a matter of fact you should have started already
it is never too early to start teaching children
my sister had a child and but she couldn't take care of him at first
so he lived with my family and myself and we started trying to teach him things from about 1 yr of age by age 3 1/2 to 4 he was able to read digital clocks, recite the alphabet, name colors and do basic math (1+1) so get started
and i might suggest you try to teach him/her using games they will hold the child's attention longer and make it fun

Sure...why not. My son is 2 and a half and can count to 15 in english, and I though in the 45 min car ride home that I would teach him to count to 10 in french which he can do. HE knows colours as well. Try it.

Of course....... it's about the right time to start teaching them stuff (I think UK school starting age is about 4yrs old, but can't remember).... though slightly earlier (like 2 - 2 and a half) would be better.

I know from looking after my cousin's kids that small kids just LOVE computers.......... when Holly (my favourite one of my cousin's kids) was around 3 she + her younger cousin would sit on my knee staring at the screen with their mouths wide open just with the "UNDERWATER" screensaver shipped with Windows '98 + ME.......... though there were also other times when getting her not to keep on pressing all the keys was like trying to keep control of an Octopus............ but it is a great way to keep them entertained for ages + teach them things in a fun way.
