That's exactly what it is. They also try to use the same reasoning. If one part of their Bible is wrong, then the whole thing falls apart. Then they try to use that logic on Evolution. Hey, they found a new species, see, they were wrong, or we find new evidence which changes the paradigm of what we know about evolution. Scientist are always gathering information to try to understand things. It continuous. The Bible is not. It is how it is. Like when they found the dead sea scrolls. That would change their paradigm of reality if something else is written that might contradict what they have already so it isn't even looked at. Evolution can't be looked at because it goes against their paradigm of reality. Scientist look at everything and the paradigm always changes because it continuous. Also, because some scientist differ on their opinions of how evolution occurred they claim that scientist don't agree on evolution. Yes, they do. They agree that evolution is probably the mechanism of how humans and animals became in their present state. However, it's exactly how it was done that they disagree on. Some believe in punctuated equilibrium for example. However, creationist won't even look at this because they are so set on having nothing interfere with the Bible. They feel juxtapose They funny thing is, as stated before, they won't look at anything that is juxtapose to their Bible. Other religions, history, anything.

It's not that Christians don't understand evolution...it's that they have the ability to reason about things. Reason leads one to really take in deep knowledge of things and to examine them and to disgard the rubbish(which is what evolution is). One can just look at the wonderful way our bodie are made, and then look at the earth and the universe and see that we were made in such a way as to really appreciate it all. We have all the senses that it requires to truly enjoy this creation. It stands to reason that we were made in a specific way so as to get the most out of the environment we were created in. Evolution is very quickly losing its supporters in the science community, because there is no evidence to back up the theory. On the other hand, there is very much evidence that points to an intelligent Creator. Then there is the Bible which leaves no room for evolution, and since God created everything, I will take his word for it...who better to know. I would not even presume to know more than Him

I am not sure that MOST christians do not believe in evolution. That is a very easy catch all phrase and it makes it easier to classify by using the term most based on your personal experience. I followed this for almost 50 years and I do not believe that most Christians totally through out evolution

Who says Christians don't understand The Theory of Evolution? We go to school just like you do. Students, like teachers, many are Christians or believe in God, and they are also educated and know the principles of science. I am Christian, and I also believe in the Theory of Evolution because it is observable and objective and it's also forms the basis of universal grand theories for many sciences. But educated Christians, as well as many educated non christians and atheist have not agreed on our origins, some say we branched out of a more primitave species biped species, other's say we evolved and evolved until we were able to walk upright and have the plasticity to learn language and displacement of memory. I'm no creationist or anything like that, but I do believe that there's is enough evidence in the world and in the heavens that God didn't use some kind of magic potion to create matter. Instead as cited in Genesis he started with a process, first with the darkness of space and expanded the heavens broth of elemental energy to eventually create a living Earth. For those of you who think that Christians are ignorant scientifically yes there are, but all they really need is faith in the Lord, and accept Christ as Lord and Savior. For some of you atheists though, I recommend you take courses in biology, physics, chemistry, etc., to get a better understanding of your relationship with the planet and the universe. If you're going to bash Christians or non believers in Evolution, please be more objective because you people really look silly. It even embarrasses me. God Bless You

It isn't that we don't understand evolution. We understand it perfectly! We just reject it, that's all.
The vast majority of us went to the Temple of Evolution (Public School) for all of our education. I was born, raised, and educated in an atheist home. I knew no Christians (that I was aware of) growing up.
I learned all about evolution in public school, and even *gasp* in college! I took evolutionary biology, and passed with flying colors!
It was only later that I came to Christ. Comparing the Bible with what I knew about evolution, I decided that it took more faith to believe the evolution lie.
As to what Suraj just said, I must respond in this way:
There are no witnesses to what occurred during creation, and anything that man comes up with is a theory, and unable to be proven through a scientific process, which requires the scientific method.
The scientific method requires:
# 1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
# 2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
# 3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
# 4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.
# 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation. (Or lie about the results to continue receiving the government grants.)
But this is supposed to be based on observable facts. Evolution cannot achieve this using the traditional scientific method. What does that leave?
Faith.
Just like those he criticizes for following myths, the evolutionist is practicing his faith. The evolutionist believes in the theory. They have their own scriptures, and apologea. And woe unto those who knowingly or unknowing tread on "holy" ground. They'll eat you alive. You'd think for all their vitriol, that you were in a church full of hypocrites.

Regardless of where you stand on the subject, we are all going on information passed down to us. To decipher fact from lies is really beyond most of us at yahoo answers. Yes, there is overwhelming evidence that evolution did in occur. But when it comes to Genesis, it cannot be viewed as a scientific source. It is a metaphoric and poetic account of the creation. It is a book of theology and spirituality. It ties in closely to the other books in the Pentateuch, having the major emphasis on the creation of the people of God, Israel. Again this book isn't here to answer the scientific questions we are looking for, but to guide us in our walk with God.
