Well both of my cats LOVE, yes LOVE the water. They take showers with me and get shampooed about once a week(with baby shampoo so it doesn't burn their eyes or dry out their skin). When I first got them as babies they were already playing around in the tub with the water that was left after our showers, so we started letting them come in the bathroom while we were bathing and in no time they were playing with the shower spray. That was that. My oldest loves getting his bath, he purrs the whole time and stretches out like it's some grand day at the spa. My kitten gets a little wiggly when we have to hold her for the shampoo part, but that's just because she'd rather be on the floor of the tub running around under the shower spray. So my point is, all cats do not hate water and if you start out when they are small and keep up with it, most cats will get used to the bathing and maybe actually enjoy it like mine do :-)

It makes them uncomfortable however some cats actually enjoy water and some will swim if need be (I think the hate of water is a self preservation thing). My cats only liked it when it was warm water and they got dried off quickly after a bath.

Not all cats hate water. Some breeds like Persians like to go swimming.

My cat is manecoon/persian. He goes swimming in my pond. He also like to take baths and climb in the shower when someone is in it. He also like to go out in the rain and splash in puddles.

Yep, I got the pick of the litter.

Its mostly because of their fur. a cat loves to groom and groom until his/her fur is as glossy as a raven's wing. so, when they get wet, it messes their fur all up. so then, they have to groom for hours in order to get every hair in line. the few cats that enjoy water are the ones that dont care about the luster and silkiness of their fur.

It's the type of animal they are. Rabbits also hate water.

some breeds that have been domesticated have been initially desolate tract animals. that could have something to do with it. some cats love water. i think of for the main area it frequently "surprises" them to get moist or sprayed without delay. probable only "greater tender" to be dry, extraordinarily with their form of fur, than that's to be moist.

They don't like getting their fur wet. Why? It's their nature I guess.

How can they hate it if they need it to survive?
