What do you mean our relationship can't be illegal?

No, you must have lived together for ALL of 2006 and she must have provided more than 50% of your support and you must have less than $3,300 in total income and your relationship must not be illegal under local law for her to claim you as a dependent.

She can claim you only if you lived together all of 2006, not just part of it.

To answer your other question: there are still some states and localities that have laws on the books that forbid unmarried couples from cohabiting. They are probably not enforced any more, but if they're still on the bookswhere you live and you live together, then your relationship is technically illegal.
