There are sooo many types of Cockatoos! Mine is a Lesser Sulfur-crested, which are sexed by eye color. The males have very dark brown eyes, the females' eyes are lighter in color.

I have a parakeet, and we determined that it was a male because the color of the top of the beak. If it's bluish, it's a male. If it's pinkish, it's a female.

http://www.birdsnways.com/cockatoo/sexing.htm is an excellent source. It apparently isn't easy and depends on which species of cockatoo you have.DDC veterinary does DNA testing for about 20 bucks and they will send you a free kit. 1-800-625-0874 Good luck and have a tweet year

There is a company that will send you supplies to collect the samples that you need in order to determine what sex your bird is.

You may take them to a local pet store specializing in birds and have it sexed. Otherwise, it has to do with the shape of their pelvic bones I do believe. On parakeets, the bill's band across the top is bluer, but that doesn't help you, does it? :-)

A blood test at the vet is the reliable way, unless you do as I did and call your bird Nole and then have to confuse it when "he lays his first egg" and the have to change the name to Noelle...lol...
