A hot shower can cause a histamine (allergic like) skin response in some people. Cooler water is better if it is bothering you. I get a mild response from hot water and it goes away after an hour or so.

Also could be dry skin. Cooler water also good for this, along with nice soothing lotion like cetaphil or aveeno.

Benadryl a good solution if it is bothering you at night.

You might be having a mild allergic reaction to your soap, shampoo or conditioner (these run down your back when you rinse your hair). Do you like to take really hot showers? Hot water washes the natural oils away from your skin which in turn tends to dry it out.

You might be taking too hot of a shower. Try turning the heat down, it helped for me. The hot water dries out your skin.

It may be hives, or urticaria. If it lasts for more than six weeks, it's chronic urticaria, not acute. It goes away if you take anti-histamines (the stuff that's in Benadryl). There are different types of chronic urticaria (e.g. touch-induced, water-induced, etc.)

What soap or body wash do you use? Find a hypoallergenic soap with no scent or coloring. You might be allergic to your soap.
