Time in lectures has got to be the worst. My Grandfather's habit was to go to sleep during sermons in church. Once my gran gave him the elbow. He jumped in his seat and "hurruphed" so loud the vicar actually shut up for a mo and people stared as though someone were about to snuff it.

When I was in college, I had a class that met at 7:00 AM twice a week. It was a required class in soil science, and the only reason 99.9% of the people in the class took it was that it was required for our major.

The professor who taught the class was a really nice guy, but he spoke in this terrible monotone voice. Man, if he could have bottled that voice and sold it as a cure for insomnia, he'd have made a fortune!

About 15 minutes into the class, people's eyes would start to shut and heads would start to nod. You'd see some people start to nod off, and then catch themselves up with a snap and a start. They'd stay wide awake for a few minutes, and then the drone would get them nodding again.

If you sat in the back of the class, you could watch this process repeated over and over again. Occaisionally, someone would fall asleep and drop their pen or pencil, and you'd see them wake with a start when the pen hit the floor. And once in a while you'd get someone who would give up and just let themselves snore.

The professor was a really nice guy and he never once got mad at anyone. He even had a sense of humor about it-- one time this guy was just snoring like a buzz saw, and the professor told us to tiptoe out of the class without waking him up. Prof turned the lights out and shut the door on the guy, leaving him there alone catching 40 winks!

Oh The embarrassment ! Last year I went to a talk about antiques, which was given by a well known antiques expert ( of Antiques Road Show) fame. I was sitting on the end seat of the central row, only about eight feet away from the man. I was not aware that I had fallen asleep until I felt a hand on my shoulder and heard a voice say" I am sorry if my talk about Chinese porceline bored you, next time the talk will be about continental furniture, perhaps you would be more interested in that?"

I wouldnt say fell asleep, more like blacked out while driving on the freeway. My car went into another lane on the other side of the freeway I hit a car, went up a hill and my brand new car rolled a couple times down and I was rushed to the hospital with just a few bruises and scratches on my feet. Dont ever drink and drive its not worth it and its financially damaging.

Yep, I fell asleep whilst driving home (late) after my Nana's funeral with my brother in the car. The last thing I remember was him falling asleep and me following my Dad, apparently we drifted across the three lanes and it was pure luck I woke up before hitting the central reservation and killing us both. We drove the rest of the way with windows wide open and music blaring.

The other time I fell asleep on the motorway was on the back of my fella's motorbike - It shouldn't be possible.

Did it throughout college. I was also working full time, in the same field as my major, so really I was just going through the motions with the classes. And since I was working full time and getting very little sleep ... it was a struggle to stay awake!

Where do I start? Have fallen asleep on more than one occasion when I'm supposed to be listening to someone - boss at work explaining new computer system, client telling me a story, yoga classes during relaxation at end, just to name a few. Afternoons are my worst time I have to try and keep active otherwise I just go . . .
