I don't mean the popping whee you wait one minute and then it's fine, i mean the actual real popping that causes damage.

Yep-very common especially when you are in an elevator or on an airplane where you are changing altitude quickly.

It is not common any more, at least not in the developed countries where antibiotics and medical care are easily available. Most ear infections are treated before they could cause rupture of the eardrum.
I still happens though, especially in small children, who are more susceptible to middle-ear infections and cannot tell that their ear is hurting.

No! and you should see a doctor that specializes in it...they are called Otolaryngology...you should see them asap. because popping your eardrum is extremely dangerous to the rest of your health.
